Juanita Burdick
Juanita Anna Burdick, 98, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2012, at the Barnes Kasson County Hospital SNF, Susquehanna, PA, where she had been a patient since 2009. She was a former resident of Lanesboro, PA.

She was born in Brandt, PA, on October 20, 1913 the daughter of the late Edgar Allen and Ethel (Brooker) Monell.

Juanita was married on June 9, 1934 to Lloyd M. Burdick of Stevens Point, PA, who preceded her in death in 1983. She was also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law; Marlene and Clark Filan, granddaughter Carrie Tsardakas, grandson Dustin Filan, sister Irene Tell and brothers Merritt and Clinton Monell.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Carlton and Donna Burdick of Kirkwood, NY, her sister Alice Angier of Lanesboro, PA, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Among her other jobs, Nita was employed as a cook at the old Barnes hospital in Susquehanna and as a desk clerk at the Arlington Hotel in Binghamton, NY. Over many years, her cooking skills were put to great use in the wonderful meals that she prepared for her family, to whom she was devoted.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at 12:00pm at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA with the Pastor Gary Day officiating.

Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro, PA.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susquehanna Fire Department Ambulance, PO Box 175, Susquehanna, PA 18847.

Joseph A. McAndrew

Joseph A. McAndrew, 69, of Thompson, Pa. passed away Saturday July 7, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY after an illness.

He was born in Susquehanna the son of the late Joseph and Frances (Swanson) McAndrew.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Eloise (Gould) McAndrew; son Kenneth & Carla McAndrew; daughter Wendy McAndrew & Thomas Sechrist; brother John & Gloria McAndrew; sister MaryAnn Follette; grandchildren Joseph McAndrew, Brianna Ellis and Tonya Ellis; great grandchildren Gabriella Jones, Shaine Jones and Cassidy Masterson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joseph was a member of the St. John’s Church, American Legion Post #86 both of Susquehanna and Life Member of the Thompson Hose Company. He was retired from New York State Hospital in Binghamton after many years of service. Joseph was a veteran of the United States Navy.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna with Rev. David Cramer officiating.

Burial will be in the Thompson Cemetery in Thompson, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Thompson Hose Co. or American Cancer Society.
