On June 17 Lilas Nudelman, a resident of the Forest City Nursing & Rehab Center, turned the century mark on her long life. The occasion was marked by a celebration with family and friends, and yet another party with the residents and staff of the Forest City Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born Lilas Muchitz in Forest city on June 17, 1912, she was one of eight children. In 1932 she graduated from the Pennsylvania State Teachers College in West Chester, PA. She worked for years as a teacher in Browndale, and also worked in Detroit, Michigan and Washington D.C for a time. The Great Depression brought her home to Forest City so she could help her father with the family business.

At that time, Lilas’ family owned and operated the Muchitz Hotel. Soon after, Lilas married Abe Nudelman. Together the couple operated a men’s store on Main Street, Forest City, while raising their two children. Nudelman’s later offered ladies’ apparel at Lilas’ urging.
An avid golfer, Lilas was a member of the Elkview Country Club. She also enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Forest City Bowling League.
Being of Slovenian heritage, Lilas is a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Forest City, which her father helped build. Lilas is the proud mother of two, grandmother of three, and great-grandmother of two. What is her secret to a long and productive life? No stress!
