Reta Whitman

Reta Whitman, 67, of New Milford Township, passed away at home peacefully on June 20, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Marion Carey Washburn. She was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Washburn. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, James Whitman, Sr.

Also surviving are her three children, Alicia and Jeffrey Conroy, James Whitman Jr., and Jason Whitman; five grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney, Jeffrey, Kristen, and Cheyenne; three brothers, James, Daniel, and Thomas; aunts, Bessie, Mary, and Mariel; uncles, Pat and Merle; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Reta loved to sew and teaching her grandchildren to sew and cook. She really enjoyed seeing that a person’s needs were met, family members or a stranger. It didn’t matter who, she was always there to help. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross to assist families in need. Every year she made quilts, doilies, and pillow cases for the Harford Fair. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, especially her family. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Dr. Nicole Rosa for their compassion, care, and dedication.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2012 at the South New Milford Baptist Church, New Milford, PA. Interment took place on the family homestead following the service. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 207 Locust Street, Montrose, PA 18801 or to the South New Milford Baptist Church, 2967 Harford Road, New Milford, PA 18834.
