Art On The Trail
People are familiar with the D&H rail-trail as a quiet and safe place to bike, hike and run but did you know this historic corridor is also home to some of the best art in Pennsylvania? Many talented local artists live in close proximity to the trail and on Saturday, June 30th rail-trail cordially invite you to an exhibit of their work from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The collection will feature nature photography, black & white photography, water colors, oils, greeting cards, botanical art and basket weaving and chair caning. Featured artisans include: Robert Stark, Sherry Sparks, Charlie & Ginny Ahearn, June Lamberton, Stephanie Westgate, Marilyn MacDowell, Bill Maile, Lucille Norella, Russ Klapatch, Joan Halbach, Joan Halbach and local organic food from Skoloff Farms. Enjoy an old fashion barbecue at Cables Deli- 11am until sold out including 1/2 chicken, macaroni salad, coleslaw, beans and dessert. Other activities include an interpretive walk on the rail-trail at 11am. Learn more about how the D&H railroad influenced the Union Dale area. A children’s photography class with Sherry Sparks will be held at 1 pm. Children are invited to take a walk and explore the technique of nature photography. At 2 pm there will be variety of stream side activities including collecting and identifying invertebrates that live at the bottom of a stream and building a boat with all natural material found around the stream bank and enter it in a race.
All activities take place close to the Union Dale Trailhead and open to children and playful adults!

Forest Landowners To Present Dragonfly Talk
The Susquehanna County Forest Landowner’s Association (SCFLOA) will be holding its summer picnic at Salt Springs State Park on June 24, 2012. Naturalist David Trently will enlighten the group with a colorful presentation explaining the natural history and diversity of the dragonflies and damsel flies of the area. Mr. Trently is an internationally known expert in the area of dragon and damsel flies. A native of northeastern PA, he is a professional biologist and is currently a guide for the Partnership of International Birding, which conducts bird watching tours globally. David is also an avid wildlife photographer, especially of birds, butterflies, moths and dragonflies. Mr. Trently’s 1:00 p.m. presentation and the following nature walk are open to the public. Members and guests of SCFLOA and Wayne-Lackawanna Forest Landowners should plan to be there at 12:00 noon for lunch . The Association will be providing burgers, sausages, rolls and beverages. Attendees should bring a covered dish to pass.
