1st Year Anniversary Of “Woofstock”

True Friends Animal Welfare Center located in Montrose, PA is anxiously anticipating their upcoming first year anniversary. Last year when the Pennsylvania SPCA was going to close the shelter, a team of volunteers formed True Friends in order to keep the only local, non-kill shelter open for animals in need throughout Susquehanna & Wyoming County. Through the past year they have not only kept the doors open, but have built a community organization with volunteers, supporters, and staff that are dedicated to the shelter and the animals they care for.

“True Friends has truly become a family that shares a mutual passion for animals in need and I am so proud of how far we have already come”, stated Director Dory Browning.

Sydney, one of the many pets we have waiting for a home at True Friends.

The momentous celebration is Saturday, July 7th from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Salt Springs Park outside of Montrose. “Woofstock” as it is suitably named, will be a day of music including notable musicians as Mike from Crystal Skies, The Dirty Rotten Liars, The Coal Town Rounders, The Fab Three, and MOJO. The benefit will be not only to celebrate, but raise much needed funds to continue to keep the shelter open. The event will also include food, vendors, and a wide variety of impressive raffles. Any unique local vendors who are interested, space is still available. The goal is not only to make this event a success, but an inexpensive day for families to enjoy.

With the shelter being completely dependant on contributions, sponsors for this event would be greatly appreciated. Any individuals, families, businesses, and organizations that would like to support this event, please mail your donation to True Friends at: PO Box 551, Montrose, PA 18801.

The True Friends fundraising team has been diligently working on planning the event and it is promised to be a day you won’t want to miss. Four legged friends are of course welcome to attend the festival.

For any additional information on True Friends or the event itself, please contact Dory at e-mail, petstruefriends@gmail.com or by phone at #570-396-6011.

Additional information will be posted on the True Friend’s website, truefriendsawc.com as it is available.

True Friends is located on Route 76 & 29 (Across from the lake) in Montrose, PA. They are open everyday from 11:30-4:00 and can be reached at #570-278-1228.

True Friends is always in need of volunteers and donations. They also have many wonderful dogs and cats waiting for a second chance.

“A true friendship doesn’t ask for much. Homeless animals are only hoping for a warm, comfortable place to sleep, food to fill their bellies, and love to fill their hearts. A friendship couldn’t be more true than that.” –Dory Browning

State Championship Stock Dog Trial

The 31st Annual State Championship Stock Dog Trial (PSCSDT) will be held on June 16, 17, 18 and19, 2012 at Sheepy Hollow Farm, Hop Bottom, PA. The 4-day event is a qualifying trial for the United States Border Collie Handler’s Association and the Northeast Border Collie Association and will also be a qualifying trial for the 2012 national competition in Klamath Falls, Oregon in September.

The event is open to the public with free admission and a small parking fee to help defray the costs of returning the parking area to good pasture. Each year, more than 200 dogs (participating in more than 400 runs) compete in the PSCSDT with dogs and handlers from more than 14 states and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

The festive nature of the trial, year to year, brings more and more spectators. The field is expertly groomed, tents and bleachers are provided for the spectators and handlers. Various shops and clinics are offered on site. Handlers and spectators are housed in the same areas to allow communication between them. Programs with running orders are provided for ease of following the action. The church prepares a concession stand on Saturday and Sunday and church services are held on Sunday beginning at 7:30 a.m. to add to the pleasure of the day. A mini-deli is usually available on Monday and Tuesday. The event is a great way for the family to celebrate Father’s Day Weekend.
