WADE F. “SPIKE” RENDLE

Wade F. “Spike” Rendle, age 74, of Lenox Township, died Sunday evening, March 18, 2012, at home. His wife is the former Gail Clark. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 14, 2011.

Born November 11, 1937 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late James F. and Frances Lucille (Weaver) Rendle.

He was a 1957 graduate of Wyoming Seminary and a 1958 graduate of Wyoming Seminary Dean's School of Business. He also attended Harpur College in Binghamton, NY where he studied business administration. He was a third generation railroader and worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, retired from Gould National Battery Company, Dunmore, which later became Exide Corporation, after 30 years. He also did government quality control for Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company and worked at ANSCO Film Corporation and Charmin. He was a founding member of the Railroad Museum of NEPA, belonged to Endless Mountains Model Railroad Club and helped charter two chapters of the National Railway Historical Society.

He is survived by one daughter: Leigh Valerie Sickler & husband Robert of Springville, PA; one son: John Wilkes Rendle of Palmerton, PA; number two son: Joseph “Jody” L. Nichols of Nicholson, PA; one grandson: Justin Wade Sickler of Norfolk, VA; one sister: Betsy Kozarski of Vestal, NY; several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister: Patricia “Nonnie” Maas.

A memorial service was held Saturday afternoon, March 24, 2012 from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, celebrated by his daughter Chaplain Leigh Valerie Sickler, officiating. Interment was held at Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.

RONALD ELIOT BEAUCHAMP

Ronald Eliot Beauchamp, 74, of Harford, PA passed away, Monday, March 19, 2012 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY. Born August 10, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Reginald and Elizabeth [Brown] Beauchamp.

He retired after 37 years of service with the City of Philadelphia as a surveyor, work he enjoyed because he was outside much of the time. For many years he bicycled across the city to his work.

Ron served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years on a destroyer tender, the USS Valcor, as a cook. He visited the Seychelles, Bombay, Mombasa, and the Persian Gulf and loved to tell stories about that time.

Ron lived in the Mt Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia, in several different houses, from his birth until he was 65 years old, when he and his wife Sioux moved to their second home in Harford. He greatly enjoyed being part of a rural community, and felt blessed to live in such a beautiful place.

He was a member of the Harford Congregational Church of Harford UCC and the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees, in which he acted as a Shop Steward until his retirement. He sang with Binghamton University Chorus and Mostly Opera and La Voce of Scranton.

Sioux and Ron loved to camp and made many trips across the country to Wyoming and California, and trips to Costa Rica, Switzerland and Eastern Europe, and a month each in Arizona and Texas. Ron was a sharp-eyed observer, often the first in any group to spot far-off hawks or tiny frogs.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sioux De Groot Petrow of Harford, PA; daughters Laurie Beauchamp of Glenmoore, PA and Kimberly Beauchamp of Newburyport, MA; and son & daughter-in-law, Christopher & Sarah Beauchamp of Los Gatos, CA; grandchildren, Maxwell, Megan, Trevor & Mackenzie Beauchamp; a sister, Irene Brooks of Irvine, CA; a brother & sister-in-law, Roy & Amy Beauchamp of Mill Valley, CA; an aunt, Margie Donnelly and her husband Bill of Lancaster, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also mourned by his wife Sioux's chosen children, Anais Tomezsko & Noah Scher of Carbondale, CO; Miele Adler & her children Auden & Leni Mae Burton of Los Angeles, CA; and Doue & Charlotte Adler of Los Angeles, CA.

Ron was predeceased by his parents and by his first wife, Barbara Beauchamp.

A memorial service was held Sunday, March 25 at the First Congregational Church of Harford UCC.

Instead of flowers: memorial contributions may be made to Harford Congregational Church, Harford Fire Company, The Nature Conservancy, or the Southwest Indian Foundation in Gallup New Mexico. Ron believed in giving to others and supported many charities.

WALTER A. HOLTZMAN

Walter A. Holtzman, 94, of Great Bend, PA passed away peacefully on March 22, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary.

Walt is also survived by three daughters, Carolyn and Gerald Gow, Susquehanna, PA, Sylvia and Norman Aldrich, New Milford, PA, and Della and Mark Trammel, Binghamton, NY; one step son, Gary and Belinda Colwell; five grandchildren, Laurel and John Carroll, Gerald and Jacqueline Gow Jr., Patrick and Darice Aldrich, Rick and Lori Aldrich, and Katelyn Trammel; two step grandsons, Gary and Gina Colwell and Jason and Heather Colwell; five great grandchildren, Kara and Brandon Gow, Kathryn and Kimberly Aldrich, and Rauri Carroll; three step great grandchildren, Grant, Olivia, and Ryan Colwell; numerous nieces and nephews.

Walt retired from Kroehler’s Furniture in 1978 with more than 30 years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed his canine companions. He was proud to be a veteran having served with the United States Army.

A prayer service was held Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA. Inurnment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CHERYL ANN (SPUDIS) MANCHESTER

Cheryl Ann (Spudis) Manchester passed away after an extended illness on March 23, 2012. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, John; two sons, Patrick, New York, New York and Brian of San Jose, CA; her mother, Joan Spudis, Hughestown, PA; a brother, William Spudis and his wife, Terri, Yatesville, PA; a brother, Thomas Spudis, Hughestown; a sister, Joanie Spudis, Hughestown, PA; a sister, Mary Beth Grillo and husband, Frank, West Pittston, PA; many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, a special grand nephew, Brady, and many in-laws and friends who all showed her great love and support throughout her life, and especially in her last days. She was predeceased by her father, William Spudis.

Cheryl was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Penn State University, and Wilkes University. She taught mathematics and technology for 32 years in the Blue Ridge School District, during which time she also served as Mathematics Department Chairperson, Curriculum Coordinator for the District, Band Front Advisor, Cheerleader Advisor, and was involved in the Student Assistance Program. For many years Cheryl organized and ran Red Cross Blood Drives at the school. She was a member of St. Lawrence Roman Catholic parish, the Blue Ridge Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics, for whom she ran a mathematics contest each spring for several years.

Cheryl took great pleasure in raising her sons and in supporting all of their many activities, and her passing will leave a deep void in our lives. The family wishes to thank all of the secretaries, nurses, and especially Dr. Sheth, of Broome Oncology, the nurses and support staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart, all of whom provided tremendous care and compassion, and also Cheryl’s doctors and their assistants at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Funeral services will be held at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc., Hallstead, PA on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10:30 and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be made in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

RACHEL M. KOCHMER

Rachel M. Kochmer, age 67, of Lake Idlewild, Clifford Township, PA, died Friday evening, March 23, 2012, at the Commonwealth Hospice of Northeast Pennsylvania at Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was the wife of the late Joseph Paul Kochmer, Sr., who died April 30, 1996. They were married on June 22, 1963.

Born January 5, 1945 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Albert “Pat” and Rachel (Bowen) Machell.

She was a graduate of the Clifford Elementary and the Mountain View High School. She worked at Sears Roebuck Company, Clifford Dress Factory, Horn's Restaurant, Clifford and the Mountain View Restaurant, Clifford. She retired from the Clifford Post Office. She was a member of the Clifford Baptist Church and its Friendship Circle. She was also the superintendent of the church's Sunday school. She was a member of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Rachel enjoyed life to its fullest, she loved baking, sewing, quilting, dancing, riding motorcycles, playing volleyball and entertaining.

She is survived by three sons: Joseph Paul Kochmer, Jr. & wife Diane, Robert Kochmer & fiancé Kathryn Elkins and Scott Kochmer, all of Clifford, PA; one daughter: Machelle Owens & husband William of Clifford, PA; eleven grandchildren: Joseph Paul Kochmer, III, Jacqueline Kochmer, Jennifer Kochmer, Jillian Kochmer, Jordan Kochmer, William Owens, Jr., Bradley Owens, Bryan Owens, Lane Kochmer, Lexis Kochmer and Korey Elkins; five sisters: Frances Johnson of Clifford, PA, Elizabeth Grant of Harford, PA, Alberta Miller of Clifford Township, PA, Margaret Farrell of Mount Washington, KY and Janice Price of Clifford, PA; one brother: William Machell of Clifford, PA; numerous nieces & nephews; companion: Andrew Wyzykowski of Lake Idlewild, PA and his daughters Lauri Mitchell & husband David, Karen Gekas and her children Taylorann & Julian.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Albert Machell.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning, March 27, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in the Clifford Baptist Church, celebrated by Chaplain Richard Butler & Rev. Jack Race, officiating. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church. Interment to follow at Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
