Jeffrey Horvath Makes Dean's List GETTYSBURG, PA - Jeffrey Horvath of Meshoppen has been placed on the Gettysburg College Dean's Commendation List for outstanding academic achievement in the Fall 2011. Gettysburg College students with a quality point average of 3.33 or higher for a semester's work are placed on the College's Dean's Commendation List. ROCHESTER, NY - Roberts Wesleyan College is pleased to announce Leah Tyler was named to the Dean's List for outstanding academic performance for the fall 2011 semester. Lock Haven University Announces Dean’s List LOCK HAVEN, PA - Lock Haven University has released the names of students who achieved Dean's List recognition for the Fall 2011 semester. The Dean's Honor List, prepared at the end of each semester, recognizes those students who have achieved academic distinction. To qualify for the Dean's List, the student must have earned a GPA of at least 3.5 in 12 hours of letter grades. Skyler Wilcha Named To Chatham Dean's List PITTSBURGH, PA - Skyler Wilcha of Meshoppen has been named to Chatham University's Dean's List for the 2011 fall term. She is a second-year student at Chatham. To be eligible for Dean's List, students must carry a GPA of at least 3.5 and complete a minimum of 12 credits for a letter grade. He participated in several meetings, attended a committee hearing and met his representatives in both the Senate and House. Tewksbury Honored For 50 Years On ELSB Tom Gentzel, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association from Harrisburg, recently presented Arden Tewksbury a special award for serving on the Elk Lake School Board for 50 consecutive years. Mr. Gentzel stated that he had been involved with the Association for thirty-five years and this was the first time he has seen anyone receiving a 50 year award. Mr. Gentzel thanked Arden Tewksbury for all the time he has spent for fifty years of service for the Elk Lake School District. Dr. William Bush, Superintendent of the Elk Lake School, presented Arden a plaque on behalf of the Elk Lake school board, faculty and the residents of the Elk Lake School. Tewksbury thanked Mr. Gentzel for coming all the way from Harrisburg to present the fine award from the School Boards Association. Arden introduced members of his family that were present for the award presentation: sons David and Tim; daughter-in-law Tami; granddaughters Alicia, a sophomore at Wyalusing school, and Megan, a 4th grader at Elk Lake Elementary. Arden also thanked Dr. Bush for the fine plaque and he reminded everyone that he used to officiate basketball games in Montrose when Dr. Bush played there. Arden said it’s been an honor to serve on the Elk Lake School Board, and he gave special thanks to the residents of Meshoppen Township for seeing fit to continue to send him back to the School Board for all these years. He was very grateful that the Elk Lake School Board had the foresight to construct the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center and he appreciates the fact that other schools send students there. Arden alluded to the financial strength of Elk Lake School. More importantly, he felt that the students at Elk Lake have achieved several awards for academic achievement as well as their accomplishment in extra curricular activities. Tewksbury was appointed to the Board in the spring of 1961 and was elected to the Board in November of 1961. Reflecting on his years at Elk Lake, Arden said that in November 1957 the late Hilton Button and he officiated the very first basketball game at the school. Arden said, "we have always tried to provide the best facilities possible for all of our students." In conclusion he said, "it's been a great ride and that ride is not over." The Susquehanna Community School Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is in need of volunteers to sell raffle tickets. 5,000 tickets are to be sold, and to date less than 500 have been sold. Without selling all tickets, free yearbooks and field day t-shirts will be jeopardized for the elementary school. No other fundraisers are planned.
