Dylan D. Reed Makes Dean’s List

ANNVILLE, PA - Mr. Dylan D. Reed of Montrose was named to the fall 2011 dean's list at Lebanon Valley College. Dean's list students must maintain a 3.4 average out of a possible 4.0. Dylan is a senior history and political science major.

Emily Travis Makes Dean's List

CAZENOVIA, NY - Cazenovia College recently released names of students honored for academic achievement during the fall semester of 2011. The College is home to about 1,000 degree-seeking students; those named to the Dean's List have achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average for all courses attempted, and have earned 12 or more academic credits during the semester.

Among the students on Cazenovia College's fall 2011 Dean's List is Emily C. Travis of Montrose, a senior working toward a bachelor of professional studies degree in management specializing in fashion merchandising.

Katelin Volk Receives Scholarship

ALFRED, NY - Katelin Volk, a Montrose resident, has been awarded an "Out of State Scholarship" to attend Alfred State College. Katelin was awarded $2,000 per year for the scholarship.

Volk is slated to graduate in 2012 from Montrose Area Junior-Senior High School and intends to enroll in the veterinary technology program.

This scholarship is offered to out-of-state students. Recipients may receive $2,000 per year for up to four years (equivalent of a baccalaureate degree) if they maintain a 2.5 grade point average. This merit-based scholarship is open to prospective students with an 85 or better overall high school average.

Messiah College Dean’s List

GRANTHAM, PA - The following local students have been named to the fall 2011 dean's list at Messiah College: Sarah Maynard, Brackney; Ruth Lopez, Carbondale; Jonathan Norton, Nicholson. Dean's list is earned by receiving a 3.6 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Millersville University Announces Dean’s List

MILLERSVILLE, PA - The following local residents have been named to Millersville University of Pennsylvania's Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester: Alison E. Kwader, Montrose; Eric Lloyd, New Milford; Susan M. Greene, Susquehanna.

The 1,565 students named to Millersville University's fall 2011 Dean's List earned a semester grade-point-average of 3.50 or higher and attempted at least 12 credits of course work.

Taylor Heeman Makes Dean's List

YORK, PA - Taylor Heeman of Hallstead, a first-year Nursing major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the Dean's List for the Fall 2011 semester. To be eligible for this honor, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Teacher Enrichment Grant Awarded

The recipient of the Teacher Enrichment Grant of $300 from the Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) is Lindsey Escandel, elementary guidance counselor in the Elk Lake School District. Her special project for sixth grade girls, entitled GROW, is identified as Girls Realizing their Own Worth. Miss Escandel plans to use this grant to conduct an overnight program with significant activities and worthwhile projects that will positively empower the girls to recognize their potential for personal achievement, increase their self-esteem, and build meaningful friendships.

On December 6, the Selection Committee, consisting of Robert Orner, Robert McNamara, Linda Lee, Colleen Gesford and Joan Peters, made the presentation at a meeting with Miss Escandel, Elk Lake Elementary Principal Mr. Charles Pirone, and many sixth grade girls who will be participating in the GROW encounter in the spring.
