Kiwanis Christmas Toy Drive Under Way
Submitted By Ed DeWitt, Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area
Christmas is a magical and wonderful time - especially through the eyes of a child. No child should ever believe, “I must be bad, because Santa didn't come and leave me some gifts.”
The Christmas season has always been a time for giving and sharing. One of the best ways to celebrate the spirit of the season is to share some of our blessings with the needy and less fortunate in our communities. There can be no better way to experience the joy of Christmas than to help a needy child enjoy the holiday with toys found under their Christmas tree.
The Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area wants to provide just such an opportunity to the people of Susquehanna County. For the past 31 years the Montrose Kiwanis Club has conducted their annual Christmas Toy Drive. Last year over 750 children in our area were able to enjoy Christmas in a very special way because of the generosity of so many caring neighbors and organizations that contributed to the toy drive. Because of the recent flooding that ravaged many communities in our county and the critical economic situation in our county and the country, it is anticipated that the need will be even greater this year. The club expects to help at least 600 families this year.
The Kiwanis club is asking for the public’s help and support again this year in this worthwhile service project. Donations of new toys (unwrapped) and used toys in clean, reusable condition are requested.
Cash donations are urgently solicited and gladly accepted so that the club can purchase new toys in order to meet their goal of giving at least one or two new toys to each child. Please forward cash contributions to the Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area, P.O. Box 275, Montrose, PA, 18801.
Toys will be accepted from now until Saturday, December 10, and may be dropped off at the following locations: Tom Kerr’s Garage, Grow Avenue, Montrose; Robinson’s Market, South Montrose; The Montrose Country Club, 870 Lake Avenue, Montrose; or Paraco Gas in Choconut. For additional information please contact the Montrose Kiwanis Club at 278-3537.
The Susquehanna County Christmas Bureau, under the direction of Interfaith, will coordinate distribution of toys. Christmas toys and food baskets will be given out on Thursday, December 15, at the Montrose Bible Conference located on Lake Avenue.
The Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area invites everyone to participate in this annual service project. Please help make a Christmas dream come true for the needy children in our area.
