LEONARD NAVICKAS SR. Leonard Navickas Sr., 80, of New Milford, PA went home to be with the Lord, Monday, June 27, 2011. Born December 21, 1930 at Williams Pond, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and Anna [Krisky] Navickas. Leonard proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War. He was a construction worker who loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Rita L. [Tingley] Navickas of New Milford, PA; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and Debra Navickas, Thomas and Elizabeth Navickas, Leonard Navickas Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Joy and Robert Gunning; grandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Jennifer Navickas, Joey and Stevie Navickas, David Navickas, Kathryn Navickas, Robin Gunning-Varsimas and Michael Varsimas, and Michael Gunning; special cousins, Alyn Adolfson, Bonnie Meade, Deanna Meade, Krause; nieces and nephews. At his request services were private and full military honors were held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Great Bend, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., Montrose, PA 18801. EVERETT (BUD) HOLMES Everertt (Bud) Holmes, 86 of Moravia, NY, and formerly of Thompson, PA, passed away June 27, 2011 at the Barnes Kasson SNF in Susquehanna, PA. He is predeceased by his parents Samuel and Ila (Gelatt) Holmes; brother William Holmes; sister Betty (Holmes) Gorton; and also his first wife Stephanie (Seney) Holmes. He is survived by his loving wife Frances (Weibley) Holmes; and his four children, Roxann and Mark Crouch, Joseph and Bonnie Holmes, Sam and Amy Holmes, Robin Holmes and John Krall; three step children, Kim and Bart Reid, Mark Ernst, and Greg Ernst; eleven grandchildren, Tracey Smith, Edward Hartel, Kim Conklin, Nicholas Holmes, Alan Komar, Sarah Holmes, Steven Holmes, Matthew Holmes, Joanna Sanders, Sandra Reid, and Alyssa Ernst; fourteen great grandchildren; and his very special pet dog Daisy. Bud was born in Burnwood and grew up in Ararat, PA. He attended Hobbs Elementary School and was a graduate from Thompson Vocational High School. He joined the Army in May of 1943 and served in the European Theatre where he received the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star; and was then honorably discharged in January 1946. He retired as Post Master from the Thompson Post Office, Thompson, PA, and enjoyed retirement to its fullest by traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends. Bud was a Life Member of the VFW Post 7127 of Moravia, NY, a member of the American Legion Post 0800 of Gorton, NY; former officer and member of the Thompson Hose Co., Inc. Thompson, PA. The family of Bud has granted his wishes to be sent to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY, for research. He wanted to keep giving even after his death for educational purposes. The family would like to thank everyone who touched Bud’s heart in a special way to make his ending more memorable. Arrangements made by the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Susquehanna, PA. Burial will be in the Ararat Cemetery where a memorial service will be established by the family at a later date to be announced.
