Senator Yaw To Host Constituent Outreaches

(WILLIAMSPORT) A representative from state Sen. Gene Yaw’s office will be at the Great Bend-Hallstead Public Library on Friday, July 8 from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. and then at the Susquehanna County Office Annex, 81 Public Avenue, Montrose from 1-2 p.m. to meet with area constituents and respond to questions concerning state government.

Yaw encourages anyone with a state-related inquiry or problem to stop by; no appointments are necessary.

Constituents unable to meet with Yaw’s staff that day may also call the Senator’s toll-free number, 1-800-443-5772, with questions and concerns.

Penn Dixie Announces Upcoming Performances

Penn Dixie, "Everyone's Favorite Hometown Band," has been sponsored by Peoples Neighborhood Bank to appear in several area parades throughout the remainder of the year. They will perform in the Tunkhannock Fireman’s parade, the Deposit Lumberjack Festival and Conklin Town Fair parades, the Susquehanna Homecoming parade, as well as in the Scranton Jaycees and Binghamton Boscov's Christmas parades. They have already appeared in Montrose Memorial Day, Nicholson Fire Company and Thompson July 4th parades. Their next performance will be during the Susquehanna Hometown Days parade, scheduled for this Friday, July 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Pickett Announces July Office Hours

TOWANDA - Susquehanna and Sullivan County residents of the 110th District can take advantage of satellite office hours hosted by Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) during the month of July.

“These office hours are one way to bring state government closer to our communities,” Pickett said. “I encourage area residents to stop by to pick up a state form or for more information about services available at the state level.”

In Susquehanna County, staff will be available from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month - July 13 and 27. The office is located on State Route 706 at Flynn’s Consignment Shop in Lawton. The site was formerly Cavallaro’s grocery store.

Likewise, Sullivan County residents can visit Pickett’s satellite office at the Sullivan County Courthouse in Laporte on from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 20.

Farm Bureau Announces Poster Drawing Contest

The Susquehanna County Farm Bureau would like to invite the children of Susquehanna County to enter the 2011 Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Safety Poster Drawing Contest. The contest is open to any youth 15 years of age and under. These entries will be divided into three age groups, 13-15 yrs., 9-12 yrs. and 8 years old and under.

The theme is “Safe Ears = Happy Ears.” Include a slogan on your poster, in less than 10 words, which addresses this theme. Your child’s original color drawing must be 8 1/2 x 11 inches. No tracing, collages or three dimensional drawings.

The back of each entry must include: child’s name, address, phone number, county, age category and parents’ names. County winners in each age group will be awarded a monetary gift and forwarded to Pennsylvania Farm Bureau for judging.

At the State level, from all the entries received across the state, a first and second prize will be selected in each age group. First prize winners will receive a $50 gift card, and second prize winners will receive a $25 gift card. PFB winners will be announced in the “Country Focus,” and the winning posters will be displayed at Ag Progress Days and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau Annual Meeting.

Please submit all Susquehanna County entries to Janice Webster, 596 State Route 167, Hop Bottom, PA 18824. Posters must be received by July 15.
