HEADLINES: On Friday, July 1, monthly Eucharistic Adoration will begin after the 12:10 p.m. mass and will conclude with mass at 7:00 p.m. A prayer service with the Men of the Sacred Heart and benediction will follow the evening mass. The date of this month’s service coincides with the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a solemnity in the Roman liturgical calendar since 1856. Father Jerry Safko serves as Pastor of Holy Name of Mary Church, 278 South Main Street, Montrose. Fiddlers Return To Thompson UMC On Friday, July 15 at 8:00 p.m., the Old Time Fiddlers, which celebrate over thirty years of performing and promoting the music that is part of our heritage, will be sharing their talents at the Thompson United Methodist Church in Thompson. Steve Jacobi, Craig Gehrig and Dale Teeple began the group in 1992 and have been performing traditional tunes in concert throughout the tri-state area. Steve has been playing fiddle for over 28 years, Craig is well known for his guitar works, and Dale is a master at the piano. Jay Brooks joined the group in 2002 playing the bass. The group, which at times has as many as 25 members playing fiddles, guitars, banjos, bass, clogging, and singing, are from a variety of occupational backgrounds, brought together by the love of music. They will perform a variety of bluegrass, old-time, Western swing, Irish and Scottish tunes. Last summer the church had a full house of toe tapping and hand clapping people. Tickets will be sold on Friday evening. Join the Thompson United Methodist Church again this year for a fun evening and enjoy the music of our heritage.
