HEADLINES Elementary students at Elk Lake celebrated "Read Across America" week with many fun activities. Monday, students brought their favorite stuffed animal and wore mismatched, inside out and, of course, colorful clothes. Tuesday, the students read "Sleep Book" and wore their pajamas. Dr. Seuss's birthday, on Wednesday, was celebrated with a birthday cake and wearing of crazy hats. For the final day of this event, students were treated with a visit from author Lindsay Barrett George. Kindergarten, first and second grade students enjoyed stories from Ms. George. Ms. George is the author-artist of In the Snow: Who's Been In Here?, In the Woods: Who's Been Here?, and William and Boomer to name a few. She lives in northeastern Pennsylvania. The Elk Lake Educational Support Personnel were pleased to sponsor this visit from author Lindsay Barrett George. Pictured above, Patsy Gesford, Library Secretary and Lindsay Barrett George, author.

Susky Students Raise Pennies For Peace The seventh grade classes of the Susquehanna Community School District recently read the book “Three Cups of Tea” by Greg Mortenson. Mr. Mortenson is a very influential man who began building schools in Pakistan after being helped by the Pakistani people when he got lost on his way down from climbing K2. The class decided to collect pennies for his Pennies for Peace program to help his efforts in educating the children, especially the girls. The idea is to help make a difference in promoting world peace through education. The students are taught by Mrs. Weiss and Mrs. Carpenter and continued their research of Asia in Mr. Soden’s social studies classes. They sent a check for $100.00 to Pennies for Peace and were recently recognized for their contribution.
