BERNARD F. "BILL" MAURO Bernard F. "Bill" Mauro of Warrenton, VA died on March 8, 2011 at Fauquier Hospital. He was born on September 22, 1919 in Susquehanna, PA to the late Salvatore and Frances Mauro. Bill served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Fauquier Springs Country Club. Bill worked as a security guard for many years at the Warrenton Training Center. He was preceded in death also by his wife, Edra G. Mauro. He is survived by his sons, William F. "Billy" Mauro and his wife Peggy, and James A. "Jimmy" Mauro and his wife Lynn both of Warrenton, VA. Also surviving are his five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Warrenton, VA. Interment was in Warrenton Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Warrenton Vol. Fire and Rescue, 167 W. Shirley Ave. Warrenton, VA 20186. VIOLA MILDRED TUBBS Viola Mildred Tubbs passed away March 11, 2011 at Barnes Kasson Hospital after an extended illness. She was 81. Born October 19, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY, she was predeceased in death by her daughter Tammy Gunderman Bennett in 2008; her sister Rachel Frisbie; and brother Robert Eck. She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Douglas, Susquehanna, PA; three sons, Warren Gunderman, Port Jervis, NY, Thomas Gunderman, Sparrowbush, NY, Wm Tubbs, Kirkwood, NY, Edward Tubbs, Florida; also a sister Phyllis Edwards, and several grandchildren. Vi was a seamstress for many years until she retired. She loved to cook and crochet until she lost her sight. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Services will be at a later date in her home town. Arrangements were made by Hennessey’s Funeral home. Many thanks are extended to Barnes-Kasson Hospital, SNF, and Dr. B. Patel for her care. J. CARL NOLT - NATURALIST J. “Carl” Nolt, 91, of 300 Willow Valley Lakes Dr., Willow Street, PA, passed away at the Lakeside at Willow Valley on Wednesday afternoon, March 9, 2011. Born in Landisville, PA, he was the son of the late Jacob B. and Jennie Buel Mussleman Nolt. Carl was the husband of the late Erma I. Nolt, who passed away in 1992. He is the husband of Bess L. Caldwell Wiener Nolt of Willow Street, they were married on November 5, 1995. He was a graduate of East Hempfield High School in 1938 and had attended Franklin and Marshall College. He made his home in the city of Lancaster for some 40 years, and retired in 1980, from Armstrong World Industries, Inc. after 40 years as manager of reprographics department. He is a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Landisville. During World War II, he served with the United States Navy Seabees. Mostly known as an avid outdoorsman and naturalist, Carl loved to share his interests with others by conducting nature appreciation walks for church and school groups and by serving as Guest Naturalist at State and County Parks, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, Pequea Creek, Otter Creek, and Muddy Run Recreation Areas, and by leading North Museum Rambles. He was widely known for his expertise in the field of natural history. Carl had been a member of the Board of Directors of the North Museum Associates, Franklin & Marshall College. He was an active member of the Muhlenberg Botanical Society, Lancaster County Conservancy, Lancaster County Bird Club, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association, and the National Wildlife Federation. He had also been a long time member of the Black Log Hunting Camp in Mifflin County. Carl will be lovingly be remembered by his wife Bess and his daughter, Carole E., wife of Paul D. Weachter of Chambersburg, PA, his two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Life Celebration Memorial Service to be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 E. Brandt St., Landisville, PA on Saturday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Janice M.E. Lowden officiating. Private family interment will be held at Landisville Mennonite Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 19 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services. If desired, memorials may be sent in Carl’s memory to, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association, 1700 Hawk Mountain Rd., Kempton, PA 19529. MARION BAKER Marion Baker, 86, of Susquehanna, PA passed away peacefully in her sleep at the home of her son on March 11, 2011 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was the widow of Walter L. Baker who died in October 1999. She was predeceased by two sons, David T. and Carroll J. Baker; one grandson, Jeffrey Baker; her parents Albert and Sarah Praefke; and her sister, Anne Schwartzrauber. Marion is survived by six sons and eight daughters-in-law, Walter and Carol, Richard and Carol, Albert and Claire, Mark and Suzanne, Dean and Patricia, Dale and Marian, Eva Baker Swartz, and Irene Baker Siedlarcyk; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Marge Lynch; and several nieces and nephews. She worked for Endicott Coil, Rotorcast, and the Harford Diner for several years before starting and operating her own business for more than 40 years, MB Kennels with her husband. After Marion's retirement, she loved her weekend trips to Atlantic City and recently her daily trips to Tioga Downs and Mohegan Sun, where she loved to play slots. She enjoyed making the families' wedding cakes, her coffee, and especially her Christmas Eve get togethers. Her favorite mottoes were, “You have to play big to win big” and “Dale's a cheap skate.” The family would like to thank Robert Packer Hospital's staff, Aseracare Hospice for their compassionate care, with special thanks to Suzanne, Cindy, Joanne, Betty, and Sherri. Also to all the loving people who donated food or comfort to us. At Marion's request no services or calling hours will be held. Coleman, 62, of New Milford, PA entered into rest of March 13, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Linda. Also surviving is his son, Shawn Coleman and Lori Bolster, New Milford; two granddaughters, Sydney and Ashley; a sister, Norma Conrad, New Milford; a brother, Donnie Coleman, South Carolina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Virginia and Earl Decker George and Aretha Wood, Harold and Margie Wood, Joyce Blackington and Bob Adams; special niece Tara Blackington; and several other nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Lourdes Hospital Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and 1 Ross for the exceptional care he received. At Larry's request there will be no services.
