Obituaries

EILEEN F. BANDY

Eileen F. Bandy, 87, of Susquehanna, PA passed away on February 28, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, James Bandy in 1988.

She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne M. Leetz and companion Joseph Plonski; three grandsons, Keith and Shawn Leetz, Henry and Kerry Leetz, and Darrell and Julie Leetz; 9 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family in England. She was also predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.

Eileen was born in England and moved to the United States in 1989 following the death of her husband. She enjoyed knitting items and sweaters for others. She worked as a cook in restaurants all of her life. Eileen had the honor of attending a tea party with the Queen of England in Windsor Castle in June 1988.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday March 26, 2011 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA.

Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to Barnes-Kasson S.N.F., Activities Fund, 2872 Turnpike Street, Susquehanna, PA 18847.

DONALD H. PHELPS

Donald H. Phelps, 86, of Great Bend, PA went home to be with his Lord on March 1, 2011 in Meadow View Senior Living Center. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Alice May Robinson Phelps.

Also surviving are his children, Ramona P. and Lawrence Van Loan and Donald Phelps; two granddaughters, Dawn Marie and Patrick Thomas and Deborah Van Loan; 3 great grandsons, Daniel Calhoun, Michael and Tiffany Calhoun, and Justin Van Loan; a sister, Marylin and Dr. Richard Shipley; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.

Don was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Milford, PA. He was employed with Endicott Johnson for 20 years and then for Kasson Hardware for 13 years. He was a proud US Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the V.F.W. Post #6223.

A funeral service was held March 5, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, New Milford, PA. Interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

MARY ROSE KELLO

Mary Rose Kello, 82, of Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Barnes Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna.

Mary Rose was born in Hazleton, PA, the daughter of the late Michael and Rose (Mangione) Tito.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Leonard Kello; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Paula Kello; daughter and son-in-law Roseann and Walter Barnes; her sister Madeline Leth; brother-in-law Paul Kello; one grandson Jack Kello; nieces and nephews William and Debby Leth, Marc Kello, Paul and Sharon Kello, Carl and Laura Krodel, Joe and Frances Parilla and their families; godchild Lisa Thrash, her husband Randy and son Nicki; a special cousin Mary Lou Parilla and Bob.

Mary Rose was a graduate of Hazleton High School, and East Stroudsburg Teachers College, with advanced studies in Math at Scranton University, Marywood College, SUNY Binghamton and Courtland College.

She was a substitute teacher for many years in the Susquehanna School System. She became a permanent Math Teacher in the Windsor School System, Windsor, NY for 20 years.

She was a member of St. John’s Church and its Altar Rosary Society and a member of the Nellie Jane Dewitt Business and Professional Club, awarded the BPW Sisterhood Award serving more than 50 years as a member.

Mary Rose was an avid bowler and golfer. She and Leonard would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in June. She was deeply loved and cared for and will be greatly missed.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, where a mass of Christian Burial was offered by Rev. David Cramer.

Burial was in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

EDWARD ROBERT KENNY, JR.

Edward Robert Kenny, Jr. (Ed), 41, of Susquehanna, PA, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at his home in Susquehanna.

Ed was born at Barnes Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna, on February 4, 1970.

He was loved deeply by his family, his wife Phyllis Kenny; three children, Edward Robert Kenny, III, Marisa Kenny, Madison Kenny; parents, Edward and Ann Kenny; brother, Joseph F. Kenny; mother-in-law and father-in-law Carl and Rose Oropallo.

Ed was a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School in 1989. He worked for Willow Run Food in Kirkwood, NY.

Ed was always there to help someone when they needed it. Ed was known to be the life of a party and always wanted to see everyone else have fun as much as him. Ed loved to sing with any chance he could get and watched football with family. He brought great joy to our lives and will be missed every moment of the day.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, with Pastor Kevin Setzer officiating.

Burial was in the McKune Cemetery, Oakland, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a fund for the children at Penn Star Bank, Susquehanna, PA.
