ROBERT FRED BRANT

Robert Fred Brant, 90, died February 20, 2011 at home with his family at his side. He is survived by Claire, his loving wife of 69 years.

Also surviving are his sons, James and Linda, Royersford, PA and John and Jennifer, Hallstead, PA; daughters, Diane Zang, Chestertown, MD and Deborah and Sam Sterkenberg, Leola, PA; a sister, Julia Drake, Susquehanna, PA; six grandchildren, Dean and Christopher Zang, Ashleigh Plank, Ryan Brant, Jessica Hearne, and Nathan Brant; two great grandchildren, Cheyenne and Aaliyah; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob retired from Dairylea Milk Co. Prior to that he operated Brant's Dairy with his brother, Charles. Upon his retirement he operated Dad's Stand for 18 years.

He was a veteran of WWII and served his community in many ways including school board director for the Blue Ridge School District, Scout Master, Superintendent of Sunday School, a member of the administrative board of the Hallstead United Methodist Church, volunteered with the Great Bend Hose Company and Great Bend/Hallstead Ambulance, and was a past member of the East Great Bend Grange. He was a life member of the V.F.W.

Bob was an avid gardener and had a great love for animals. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and kindness to others.

A funeral will be held at 11:00, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Hallstead, PA. Spring interment will be made in Rose Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Great Bend/Hallstead Ambulance Company, P.O. Box 793, Great Bend, PA 18821 or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18902.

MARY ELIZABETH FORTUNE

Mary Elizabeth Fortune, 82, of Susquehanna, PA passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at home after an illness.

She was born in Shamokin, PA the daughter of the late Russell & Mary (Morlock) Cawthern. She was predeceased by her husband Walter R. Fortune on December 12, 1996.

Mary is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law Donald & Judy Fortune, Kirkwood, NY, David Fortune, Lanesboro, PA, Walter & Michelle Fortune, Clyde, NY, William & Amanda Fortune, Susquehanna, PA; daughter and son-in-law Linda & Gene Markell, Silver Lake, Oregon; brother and sister-in-law Richard & Carol Cawthern; two sisters and brothers-in-law Dorothy & Bill Tasker, Jane & Thomas Walk; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great great granddaughter.

Mary was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

JAMES M. McHALE

After a long illness, James M. McHale, 66, passed away at his home in Beaumont, CA on February 15, 2011. He was a native of Halstead, PA and grew up in Binghamton, NY. He attended Horseman Elementary, St. Patrick Catholic School and West Junior High.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward G. McHale, Marjorie M. O’Brien and his stepfather Cornelius “Pete” O’Brien; and one sister Mary “Ribbie” Hektor. Left to Cherish his memory is his wife of 43 years Sharon E. (Foster) McHale; son, Timothy M. & Michelle McHale of Binghamton, NY; daughters, Susan E. & Keith Yoder of Beaumont, CA and Shellie A. & Bryan Sardegna of Oak Harbor, WA; sisters, Peg Mahar of Binghamton, NY and Trudy & Jim Reynolds of Columbia, SC; brother, Jerry & Nancy McHale of E. Poultney, VT; grandchildren, Randy & Alex Ralston of Carlsbad, CA, Frank McHale of Binghamton, NY, Mallorie & Kenny Yoder of Beaumont, CA, Johnathon & Valerie Sardegna of Oak Harbor, WA, Heather & Rudy Montoya of Beaumont, CA; one great grandson, Gregory Montoya of Beaumont, CA; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Jim had served in the US Navy for 16 years before his illness caused his early retirement. While serving in the Navy, Jim earned his GED and an Associate’s Degree in criminal justice. During his career, he served as a volunteer police officer with the Imperial Beach Police Department rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He was also the chief umpire for the Chula Vista Bobby Sox Softball League. After his retirement, he moved from Chula Vista to Beaumont where he and his family resided for the past 21 years.

Private family services with inurnment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Remembrances of Jim can be made in his name to the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank all who cared for Jim while on Hospice. Your love and support through this difficult time made his passing easier.
