Montrose Lowers Taxes

The recessed meeting of the Montrose borough council on Monday, December 27 began with two public hearings. The first regarded the budget. The projected total income was $873,286 with the total projected expense of $982,465. When the question of whether or not this was a balanced budget was raised, it was stated that there was a carry forward balance from the past which would allow the budget to be balanced. It was also stated that the council was very conservative with the projected income due to this fact, though this was done with proper accounting from the treasurer. As there was no public present, after some brief questions from the press the budget was passed unanimously. A public hearing was then held regarding taxes. The tax base was set at 14 mills, a 2 mill reduction. This decision was also based off of the carryover. It also passed without a hitch.
