BETTY GORTON

Betty Gorton, 86, of Uniondale, PA, after a brief illness, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2010.

She was predeceased by her husband Bernard Gorton of Thompson, and a brother William Holmes of Hornell.

She is survived by her brothers Everett (Bud) Holmes, Susquehanna and Tom Holmes, Elsworth, ME; three sons and their spouses, Walter (Carol) Gorton, Windsor, NY, William (Marilyn) Gorton and Jim (Vivian) Gorton, Susquehanna, PA; five grandchildren Deborah Gorton, Carlton Gorton, Charles Gorton, Brian Gorton, Tina VonWeinstein; nine great grandchildren Megan, Carli & Alex, Derek & Amber, Ashleigh & Shelbie, Summer & Cassie; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Betty worked for years at several garment factories in Forest City and in retirement worked at the Forest City Nursing Home helping repair clothing for the residents. She was always busy and continued the tradition of quilting that was set by her mother, Ila Holmes, so she was always looking for the perfect fabric to use for her quilts that she shared with family and friends. She had wonderful neighbors, friends and care givers that helped her throughout the years.

A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance of Betty can be made to the Cancer Society, Diabetic Association or a charity of your choice.
