Local Residents Receive Awards

Heather M. Bradley, New Milford, and Amanda S. Marcy, Kingsley, were recently recognized for outstanding academic achievement at a ceremony at The University of Scranton. Frank O’Hara medals were presented to first, second and third-year students with the highest grade point average in each of the four colleges of the university. O’Hara medals are also given to graduate students with the highest grade point average at approximately the mid-point of their master’s degree programs in each of the graduate programs at the university.  The award is named in honor of the late Frank O’Hara, who served the University for 53 years in various administrative positions.

Ms. Bradley, a graduate student pursuing a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, received a pewter medal from the university’s College of Graduate and Continuing Education.  She is a graduate assistant in the biology department.  Ms. Bradley plans to teach science and coach volleyball at the middle school level.

Ms. Marcy, a second-year accounting student in the Kania School of Management, received a silver medal.  She is a member of the Society of Accounting Students and the Women’s Business Honor Society, and was recently nominated as a member of the National Jesuit Honor Society.

Nicholas J. Harasymczuk Named To Honor Society

Nicholas J. Harasymczuk of Montrose, a sport management major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the Senior Honor Society. Membership in this society, which is sponsored by the College’s Alumni Association, is limited to the five percent of the senior class who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or better, and who have demonstrated continuing leadership and involvement in extracurricular and/or community activity during their years at York College.

On December 20, the Pennsylvania State University held its Fall commencement ceremony. Among those who received degrees were the following local students.

Wilkes University Provost Reynold Verret announced the Dean’s List for the Fall, 2008 semester. The Dean’s List is a mark of academic excellence. To be named to the Dean’s List, students must obtain a minimum 3.4 GPA and carry at least 12 credits.
