HARRY V. McQUILLAN Harry V. McQuillan, 74, of Ararat, PA, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, after an illness. He was born in Jersey City, NJ, the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Lewis) McQuillan. He was also predeceased by a brother, Robert E. McQuillan. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lillian J. (Mayer) McQuillan; one son, Scott C. McQuillan, West Long Branch, NJ; one daughter, Deborah L. McQuillan, Ararat, PA; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Lucy McQuillan, Jr., Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Lauren Ashley McQuillan and Matthew Dillon McQuillan, Freehold, NJ. Harry retired from the Jersey Central Power & Light Co. and Rutgers University as a regional engineer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 21 at 1 p.m. at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA with Rev. Lloyd Canfield officiating. Burial will be in the Ararat Cemetery in Ararat, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. JOHN F. BURKE John F. Burke, 71, Susquehanna, PA, passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY after an illness. He was born in Queens, NY, the son of the late James and Grace (Perfos) Burke. He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (Hannigan) Burke on December 19, 2006; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Martin Palagonia; and a granddaughter, Stacy Waldeck. John is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Kathy Burke, Kevin and Bernadette Burke; two daughters and one son-in-law, Theresa Waldeck, Deborah and Patrick O’Connell; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Debra Burke; one sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Tom Sabatano; three grandchildren, Stephanie Waldeck, Gregory Albert, Liam Burke; one step-granddaughter, Danielle Dobres; several nieces and nephews; special pet, Jasper. John was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of St. John’s Church of Susquehanna and Detective Endowment Association. He was a retired detective of the New York City Police Department and a retired investigator for the Airline Reporting Corp. The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 16 at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Susquehanna, and at St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, where a Mass of Christian Burial was offered by Rev. Albert Leonard. Burial, St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna.
