HEADLINES: Van Cott To Minister In Papua New Guinea On Sunday, August 10, South New Milford Baptist Church was privileged to hold a commissioning service for Wycliffe Bible Translators missionary, Sara Van Cott. Sara will be leaving to begin language and culture training in Papua New Guinea in late August. South New Milford Baptist Church held a commissioning ceremony for Sara Van Cott, who will be ministering in Papua New Guinea. Before the service, an intense hailstorm hit and there were piles of assorted sizes of hailstones surrounding the building. Special music was provided by duets by Amy Cook and Ralph Biesecker, and Renee Hall and Andrea Sheldon. Also, a quartet (Lloyd Sheldon, Ralph Biesecker, Tim Carey and Phil Carey) sang "Just One More Soul." Chuck Walton, who worked as a Bible translator in the Philippines for 30 years was the main speaker. Pastor Larry Thomas left Sara with four things to remember: the helpers she has in her ministry, the missionary heroes who have gone before her, the heartaches she will inevitably endure, and the hallelujahs that will be heard before God’s throne for a life of faithfulness to Him. Sara showed a video of how God has been leading her throughout her life to this place of service. The deacons, Pastor Thomas, and Forrest Van Cott, missions committee chairman (and Sara’s Dad) prayed for and laid hands on her. A fellowship dinner followed with a pig roasted by her Uncle Cooper, and many other delicious dishes. There was a beautiful cake prepared by Mrs. Evelyn Thomas. The day ended with the appearance of a double rainbow over the church, a beautiful reminder of God’s promises and faithfulness.
Fun Day Held At St. Mark’s Church Fun Day was held Wednesday, August 13 at St. Mark's Hall in New Milford. We enjoyed a beautiful slide presentation by Jim Yeich, of a journey down the Colorado River. His pictures were wonderful and his narration was both humorous and interesting. After the film we enjoyed a snack and fellowship. Plans were made for a picnic on September 10 at St. Mark's at 12:00 noon. Everyone is welcome at these gatherings, which are held every month on the second Wednesday. We would love to have you join us! Please get in touch with Lorraine James if transportation is needed, we will be glad to make arrangements to drive you to and from the hall.
