Blue Ridge Elementary Holds Reading Contest
Submitted

On Thursday, May 8, Blue Ridge Elementary School held their annual Oral Reading Contest. First, Second and Third places were awarded to first and second grade readers, third and fourth grade readers, and fifth grade readers.

The Oral Reading Contest has been held at Blue Ridge for over 20 years by Mrs. Liz Benedict. Mrs. Benedict is a reading specialist and the district’s Title I Coordinator. The contest provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their oral reading ability along with their stage presence, projection, and animation of word delivery. This was a very special year for the Oral Reading Contest, because Mrs. Benedict will be retiring at the end of this school year. Blue Ridge Elementary will continue Mrs. Benedict’s initiatives and host an annual oral reading contest. Don’t be surprised if Mrs. Benedict is invited back to help with the judging!
