ELESPA Awards 2008 Scholarships

On Monday, May 19, the Elk Lake Education Support Personnel Association (ELESPA) was pleased to award three $750 scholarships. The scholarships were presented at the awards assembly held at the Elk Lake High School.

These students were chosen because of the hard work they have shown during their high school years at Elk Lake. The recipients of these scholarships were Emily Madrak, Karyn Hunsinger, and Colin Burridge.

Karyn Hunsinger is the daughter of Ruth and Steve Hunsinger, Montrose. Karyn plans to attend West Chester University, majoring in Nursing.

Colin Burridge plans to attend Marymount Manhattan College, majoring in Communication Arts. Colin is the son of Colin, Sr. and Diana Burridge, Montrose.

Emily Madrak is the daughter of Robert and Theresa Madrak, Meshoppen. Emily plans to major in Athletic Training at Lock Haven University.

The ELESPA was pleased to make awards of over $3,000 this year to students at the Elk Lake School. The association wished the Class of 2008 success in their future endeavors.

Elk Lake Elementary At PMEA Band Fest

The District 9 PMEA Band Festival for elementary and junior high students was held Friday, April 25 at the Blue Ridge High School. Over 200 students participated from all over Northeastern Pennsylvania. A wonderful concert was performed in the evening after the students had rehearsed all day. Elk Lake students were accompanied by Mrs. Cathy Rezykowski, elementary and middle school band director. Representing the Elk Lake Elementary School (l-r) were: front – Christian Sprout – trumpet, Brody Bushnell – tuba, Kelly Darling –clarinet; back – Joey Campbell – trombone, Alex Manzek – baritone,

Matt Woolcock – drums, Taylor Watkins – flute, Mrs. Cathy

Rezykowski.

Elk Lake Junior High At PMEA Band Fest

The District 9 PMEA Band Festival for elementary and junior high students was held Friday, April 25 at the Blue Ridge High School. Over 200 students participated from all over Northeastern Pennsylvania. A wonderful concert was performed in the evening after the students had rehearsed all day. Elk Lake students were accompanied by Mrs. Cathy Rezykowski, elementary and middle school band director. Good Ambassadors For Elk Lake School

Five Elk Lake High School seniors were presented with $100.00 savings bonds by the Elk Lake Support Personnel Association (ELESPA) at the awards program held at Elk Lake School on Monday, May 19. ELESPA Presents Hitchcock Award

The Elk Lake Education Support Personnel Association (ELESPA) is pleased to present an award in memory of Eugene Hitchcock. Mr. Hitchcock was a member of the ELESPA and a member of the maintenance staff at Elk Lake until his death. Mr. Hitchcock was very proud of the service he gave to his community. This year, the ELESPA was pleased to present the award to two seniors.

Colin Burridge and Jaclyn Vaow were each awarded $350.00 at the Senior Award Assembly held at Elk Lake on Monday, May 19. These students were chosen for their contribution to the local community.

Colin Burridge plans to attend Marymount Manhattan College, majoring in Communication Arts. Colin is the son of Colin, Sr. and Diana Burridge, Montrose.

Jaclyn Vaow is the daughter of Jack and Betty Lou Vaow, Meshoppen. Jaclyn will be majoring in Business at Bloomsburg University.

Lisa Marie Paterno Graduates M U

Lisa Marie Paterno graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marywood University on May 11, 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education – English. She was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society for education and Lambda Iota Tau Honor Society for English. Lisa Marie is the daughter of George and Amelia Paterno, North Jackson.

Melanie Biesecker On King’s Dean’s List

Dr. Nicholas A. Holodick, vice president for academic affairs at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, recently announced the students who have qualified for the Spring, 2008 Dean’s List, having achieved a grade point average of 3.4 or higher. Melanie Biesecker, Susquehanna, achieved the honor.

SCCTC National Technical Honor Society Inductees

On behalf of the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center, Alice M. Davis is pleased to announce the inductees into the SCCTC’s National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) for the 2007/2008 school year.

Officers for the 2007/2008 school year are: Jarrod Hall President; Cory Simon, Vice-President; Cody Sickler, Secretary; Caleb Prentice, Treasurer.

The goal of the NTHS is to see that deserving technical students be recognized, and that people of the community become aware of the talents and abilities of the young people and adults who choose technical education pathways to a successful future.

The National Technical Honor Society is now in its fourth year. Instructors were asked to nominate students, and those students were then asked to complete the application process. Applications were then reviewed for academic standing, attendance, citizenship, instructor recommendation, and involvement in outside activities. Based on a lengthy review process, qualifying students were then notified of this outstanding achievement.

Students were invited to an induction ceremony that took place on Monday, April 28, 2008 in the SCCTC’s “A Touch of Class/Serfass Solarium” restaurant. Each student was recognized and presented with a certificate, flowers and NTHS memorabilia.
