B-K Health Center Receives Grant

Like most of the country, communities throughout northeastern and north central Pennsylvania are struggling to meet the needs of a growing uninsured and underinsured population. The Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) is doing its part to help.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation recently awarded $486,515 to 12 nonprofit partnerships through its Access to Health Care for the Uninsured and Underinsured initiative. The funded projects will improve the quantity and quality of direct health care for more than 15,000 underserved residents throughout BCNEPA's 13 county service area, including Susquehanna County.

Funded projects that will benefit Susquehanna County residents include award of $17,500 to the Barnes-Kasson Health Center, to provide asthma management education and asthma care packages to 70 newly-diagnosed children and their families.

Turnpike SeniorCenter Update
By Mary Heesh

The holidays are coming to a close, for now. We all hope everyone enjoyed their time with family and friends. Now we can look forward to spring cleaning soon.

We will be having a new maintenance man up here, and a new office manager. That’s a lot of changes for us.

Last month’s 50/50 went to Diana Cook, not the Walker family as stated in my last column.

We have three birthdays this month, happy birthday everyone.

We also have three of our tenants in the hospital. We wish them all a quick recovery, and to come home soon.

We started our new exercise class, it’s to keep you limber and able to move around better. It’s a lot of fun, with a nice group of about twelve ladies.

We had our council meeting – the same officers were voted in. Good luck, ladies.

We had our soup and sandwich night, with ice cream for dessert. We had a nice crowd there.

We had a nice group for bingo. Elfrieda Lee called for us.

I have a new great-grandson, his name if Eli Josiah Hobbs. He comes home tomorrow.

Rose is home again. Hope she stays well.

Tim, the maintenance man is painting the lobby bathrooms. They look nice.

See you next time.
