Senior Center Menu December 31 January 4 Monday, December 31: hot roast beef sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes, parsley buttered carrots, white bread, graham crackers, diced pears. Tuesday, January 1: Centers closed, New Year’s Day. Wednesday, January 2: lemon pepper cod, scalloped potatoes, Normandy blend vegetables, 12 grain bread, graham crackers, mandarin oranges. Thursday, January 3: meat lasagna, garlic seasoned green beans, tossed salad, Italian bread, chocolate éclair or sugar free chocolate pudding. Friday, January 4: macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, wheat bread, honeydew melon.
The Susquehanna County Commissioners announce the Courthouse will be closed on Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in observance of New Year’s Day. All court related offices will be available.
The chicken and biscuit dinners sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 6223, Great Bend, have been canceled for the month of January.
Backyard Tree Fruit Program Offered A practical program on growing fruit in your backyard is being offered by Penn State Cooperative Extension in Susquehanna County on January 8, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the County Office Building, 31 Public Avenue. This program will focus on basic growing and pest management techniques that will enable you to grow quality fruit. Discussion will include pest management practices that work well, are organic, and gardener friendly. Participants will be given a fact sheet in calendar form that contains a step-by-step program on growing tree fruit. If you would like to try your hand at growing your own fruit or need to improve your skills, this free program is for you. The program is being presented by John Esslinger, Commercial Horticulture Extension Educator, Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lackawanna County.
