Harford Lodge 445 F & AM Establishes Scholarships

Harford Lodge 445, Free and Accepted Masons awarded $400.00 college scholarships to seven 2007 graduates of Mt. View High School and one graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School at recent graduation ceremonies. The awards were presented by Ronald Barankovich, Worshipful Master of Harford Lodge and Griffin N. Reynolds, Chairman of the Educational Scholarship Committee.

To be eligible for the award, each graduating senior had to be accepted in an institution of higher learning and to be related to a current or past member of the Harford Lodge. Five members are fathers of the seniors: Charles Haley, Nelson Jesse, Raymond Lasher, Ronald Phillips and Brian Tyler (PM). Emanuel Owens is the great-grandfather of Ashley Compton, Richard Zick (PM) is the grandfather of Katie Kilmer, while Robert Powers (PM) and Donald Zablotsky are uncles of Bethany Zablotsky.

The Harford Lodge Educational Scholarship Committee was established in 2006 after much discussion on the ways the lodge could contribute on a regular basis to local school systems. Ronald Barankovich, a retired Mt. View teacher, was its original chairman. High school graduates of 2007 became the first group to be so honored by the over 140 members of the lodge.

The 2007 graduates receiving the Harford Lodge 445 Scholarships were: Ashley M. Compton, Nicholson; Elizabeth Ann Haley, Forest City; Kenneth K. Jesse, Brooklyn; Katie Nicole Kilmer, Nicholson; Chad Ray Lasher, Brooklyn; Aaron Richard Phillips, Harford; Amanda Elizabeth Tyler, Kingsley; Bethany Louise Zablotsky, Hop Bottom.
