Montrose UMC Christmas Sale

The annual Christmas Department Store will be held at the Montrose United Methodist Church, 90 Church Street, on December 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is the eighth year for this unique event, which previously has had lines forming in the parking lot soon after eight o’clock.

One of the big attractions is the “attic treasures” gift center which is filled with new and like-new items at very low prices. There one can buy toys, household goods, jewelry, toiletries, Christmas cards, sporting goods, books, games, puzzles, stuffed animals, gift tins, dishes and much more. Included in this reduced price collection are Christmas decorations for the tree and home.

More realistically priced are the handmade crafts, foods of many kinds and gift baskets with varied themes.

Lunch will be available in the downstairs area from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

All are cordially invited to come join the fun and do some early holiday shopping. Free gift-wrapping is available if you so desire.

Forest City – East Ararat UMC’s Are Busy

This is a busy time of year for all of our community churches and Centennial UMC is no different.

The painting and restoration of the sanctuary has been finished with all the pews and woodwork polished. The whole church from top to bottom is gleaming. Thanks to all who helped in any way with this huge challenge.

We are looking forward to several special services in the upcoming days.

The Thanksgiving Eve service will be in East Ararat, at 7:00 p.m. on November 23. There will be a food offering accepted during this service.

A Hunters Breakfast will be hosted by the East Ararat UMC, from 11 to 2 on November 28. This is a fund-raiser for the Sunday School. Come and warm your bodies and your heart with good food and good fellowship; hunting license optional.

East Ararat also has a Christmas Shoebox project underway. Anyone wishing to donate items should check the lists posted in the foyer of Forest City and East Ararat churches. All donations need to be in by November 27.

East Ararat Church will have its Christmas party on December 3. The community is invited. This will occur at 4:30. Bring a dish to pass and a $10 gift for exchange if you’d like to participate in a gift exchange. Women – bring a gift for a woman and men – bring a gift for a  man.

There will be a Christmas Eve service at Forest City. Watch for the time for this special service.

As we begin the “holiday hustle” we should always be mindful of the blessings of living in a loving and caring community like Forest City. Everyone can find some fault, but we really live in one of the very best places on earth.

Montrose Kiwanis Club Sets Toy Drive

The Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area is pleased to announce they will conduct their annual Christmas Toy Drive in cooperation with the Susquehanna County Christmas Bureau. For the past 25 years the Kiwanis Club has participated in the collection and distribution of toys during the Christmas season for needy families throughout Susquehanna County. Last year 450 children were able to enjoy Christmas in a special way because of the generosity of so many caring neighbors and organizations that contributed to the Toy Drive.

The Kiwanis Club is asking for the public’s help and support in this service project. Donations of new toys or used toys in clean, reusable condition are requested. Cash donations are urgently solicited and gladly accepted in order to meet the goal of giving at least one new toy to each child. Please forward cash contributions to the Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area, P.O. Box 275, Montrose, PA 18801.

Toys will be accepted from now until Saturday, December 12, and may be dropped off at the following locations: Tom Kerr Chevy-Olds, Grow Ave., Montrose or Robinson’s Market, South Montrose. For additional information please contact the Montrose Kiwanis Club (278–3537).

Distribution of toys will be coordinated by the Susquehanna County Christmas Bureau. Christmas toys and food baskets will be distributed on Thursday, December 15 at the Montrose Bible Conference.

The Kiwanis Club of Montrose Area invites community participation in this annual service project to provide the opportunity for everyone to enter the spirit of the holiday season and help “Put a smile on a child’s face on Christmas.”
