HEADLINES: Churches, various organizations and individuals in Susquehanna County are beginning their sixth year of filling shoeboxes. These boxes are filled with school supplies, personal hygiene items, toys and candy for children all over the world who are victims of war, poverty and natural disasters. This year, more than ever children are hurting due to terrorism and so many natural disasters. Not only do they need a little joy in their life, they need to know that someone cares. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, a Christian Relief and evangelism ministry led by Franklin Graham. Samaritan’s Purse has already been focusing on the needs of the hurricane survivors in the southern United States. They will continue to consider additional plans to minister to these children as well as meet the needs of their commitments overseas. Materials are added to the shoeboxes, sharing the love of our Lord. For many, these will be the first opportunity they will have to learn of His saving Grace. Shoeboxes will be received at the First United Methodist Church, New Milford, until November 18. Further information can be obtained from Rae Fiske at (570) 465–3760.
