Letters to the Editor Policy

Business As Usual

I attended the Commissioners’ meeting this week hoping to garner their support toward putting pressure on the company that worked on the county’s Soldier’s monument restoration. My hope is to complete and redo work that obviously was substandard. While it was the consensus of the two commissioners present that the work was indeed less than favorable, Commissioner Kelly’s response was that I should endeavor to obtain a position on the committee responsible for procuring the company initially. Until the present investigation reveals graft, fraud or corruption, I am not willing to castigate or deride the members of the committee for past mistakes nor am I willing to become one voice on the same committee whom I feel has not the proper mindset for correcting the errors previously made. The restoration was to be completed a year ago and it is not. I have written to C & D Waterproofing, without response. I believe that public pressure needs to be brought to bear upon C & D Waterproofing, 330 Paper Mill Rd, Bloomsburg, Pa. 17815, to redo the existing patches and repair the monument further. I urge all, especially veterans and veteran organizations in the county, to support this effort. Fortunately, Wednesday afternoon I received an email from Commissioner Loomis stating, “I will be happy to write Letters of Support on County Commissioner stationary to all of our state legislators for the VFWs and American legions in our county to see if they can help in rectifying the poor job done on the monument restoration project.”

Another item discussed at the meeting was the Salt Springs State Park. It was tabled due to the absence of Commissioner Warren, who reportedly was attending a golf tournament. Commissioner Kelly stated that the missing Commissioner would not be attending the next meeting. After the meeting I lamented Commissioner Warren’s absence to Commissioner Kelly and was told that I should bring the matter up. Commissioner Kelly has claimed that they are treating their positions as full-time; perhaps Commissioner Warren hasn’t been informed.

Sincerely,

Fred B. Baker, II
