Smn. Robert Walter Graduates Training

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert K. Walter, son of Brenda and Bryan Walter, recently graduated from the Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut.

Robert is a 2004 graduate of Montrose Area High School.

Bryan J. Huyck Enlists In U.S. Navy

Civilian Bryan J. Huyck, son of Margaret L. and Kevin W. Huyck of Laceyville, PA, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Military Entry Processing Station Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, PA.

The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiter as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Bryan will report for active duty to undergo basic training at the Navy's Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, IL.

Bryan is completing his senior year at Wyalusing Valley High School.

Chawndelle Adams Enlists In U.S. Navy

Civilian Chawndelle M. Adams, daughter of Theresa M. Mattocks of Meshoppen, PA, recently enlisted in the U.S. Navy under the Delayed Entry Program at Military Entry Processing Station Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, PA.

The program allows recruits to enter the Navy and take up to one year to complete prior commitments such as high school. Using recruiter as mentors, this program helps recruits ease into the transition from civilian to military life.

Chawndelle is completing her senior year at Elk Lake High School.

SSgt. Michael Christian Deployed To Afghanistan

Army Staff Sgt. Michael L. Christian is deploying to Afghanistan to serve as a member of Combined Joint Task Force-76 (CJTF-76). The soldier is regularly assigned to the Southern European Task Force (Airborne) based at Caserma Ederle, Vicenza, Italy.

CJTF-76 is a combined and joint rotation unit supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The soldier will join other units that comprise CJTF-76 to help the Afghan people continue on their progress to a free society.

Mission objectives of the combined joint task force include establishing security, defeating Al-Qaida and Taliban forces, and deterring the re-emergence of terrorism. The soldiers are committed to staying the course in Afghanistan and standing firm with the Afghan people against forces actively working to prevent the establishment of a stable and secure environment.

Christian, an infantryman, is the son of James I. and Laury H. Christian of Drinker St., Montrose, PA.

His wife, Keria, is the daughter of William A. and Velma Ellis of Pittsboro, NC.

Amn. Ryan Diddick Returns From Deployment

Navy Airman Recruit Ryan W. Diddick, son of Bonnie L. and Joseph C. Diddick of Nicholson, PA, recently returned from a routine scheduled deployment, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, homeported in Norfolk, VA.

Diddick and more than 7, 600 of his fellow shipmates of the Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG), deployed in support of the global war on terrorism.

Carriers like the Harry S. Truman are deployed throughout the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available.

Diddick is a 2003 graduate of Mountain View High School and joined the Navy in June, 2003.
