EL Debaters Soar At Falcon Invitational

Two Elk Lake Forensics Team members put in tremendous performances at the Pennsbury Falcon Invitational Forensics Tournament at Pennsbury High School in suburban Philadelphia on February 4-5.

Pictured (l-r) are EL Forensics Team Place winners at Pennsbury Falcon Invitational Tournament at Pennsbury HS on February 4-5: Karyn Hunsinger – sixth place in LD Debate; Molly Copeland – third place in LD Debate.

Sophomore Molly Copeland and freshman Karyn Hunsinger both compiled a four-win and two-loss preliminary round record in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. They defeated debaters from Pennsbury, Southern Lehigh, Jenkintown, Perkiomen Valley, and Truman High Schools.

As a result of their preliminary round record, they both advanced to quarterfinals. Unfortunately, due to their similar records, they were paired up against each other in the quarterfinals.

EL Forensics Director and assistant coach Jon Allen decided to advance Copeland to semi-finals because she was seeded higher due to speaker point. As a result of this, Hunsinger placed sixth overall in LD Debate.

In semi-finals, Copeland lost a split decision to Ross Doppelt from Haverford High School. Copeland consequently placed third in LD Debate.

“This was a great performance by a very young team at a tournament where we were unfamiliar with the competition. These two underclassmen have proven that they are competitive even in a tough Philadelphia forensics tournament,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

On February 11-12, the EL Forensics Team will wrap up its regular season schedule by traveling to Pittsburgh to compete at the prestigious North Hills Invitational Tournament, the largest high school invitational tournament in the state.
