Blue Ridge Elementary Celebrates Holidays

On December 3, voices and instruments were raised in celebration of the December Holidays. Blue Ridge Fifth Grade Band, under the direction of Jay Thornton and the Fourth and Fifth Grade Choruses, directed by Holly Snitzer enthusiastically performed song for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, LaPosada, Christmas and winter, with a swinging hoe-down, Kazoos, and recorders thrown in the mix. As the concert came to an end, songs of peace and brotherhood sent the message to all as the elementary students wished the audience their best for the holiday season.

Elk Lake Debater Dominates Field

Elk Lake sophomore Forensics Team member Molly Copeland left the LaSalle Forum Tournament at LaSalle College High School in suburban Philadelphia on December 11 just as she entered it – with an undefeated record.

Copeland once again racked up an undefeated record in the three preliminary rounds in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate. This placed her in finals with Chris Chizdek from Truman (Levittown) High School.

For the third straight tournament, she captured a unanimous decision in finals and won her third consecutive tournament.

“This is an impressive start to a debating career. I cannot remember when we ever had a debater begin their career with 14 straight wins,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

The EL Forensics Team will travel to Shikellamy High School to compete at the Blue, Maroon, and White Tournament, the largest single day forensics tournament in PA on January 8. The team will then compete at the Martin Luther King Tournament at Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre on January 15.
