Area Recruiter Gets National Honor

Fort Indiantown Gap – A northeastern Pennsylvania National Guard recruiter was recently honored for his efforts by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, Lt. Gen. Steven H. Blum, in a national ceremony held in Arlington, Va.

Sgt. First Class James Ditchey, Nicholson, PA, received the Chief’s 54 award for top recruiter in the Pennsylvania National Guard. The award is presented to the top performers in each state and the four U.S. territories. He was also presented with the Recruiting and Retention Area Command 2 award, which recognizes the top recruiter for that area. The RRAC 2 area consists of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, DC.

“Sergeant Ditchey is a top-notch soldier, and we are very proud of his accomplishments,” said Maj. Gen. Jessica L. Wright, the adjutant general. “As important, if it were not for the spirit of military service in northeastern Pennsylvania, he could not have achieved this goal.”

Ditchey recruited 36 soldiers in a 12-month period, which ended in September. He recruits mainly in Susquehanna County.

Ditchey is a 1988 graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School. He is married to the former Lisa Ann James and has three daughters.
