Farm City Feast!

The 38th Annual Farm City Feast will be held at 7:30 p.m., November 20 at the Mountain View High School. Farm City Feast was established to continue the important connection between farm people and city people to create bonds of friendship and get a first hand look at each others’ way of life.

The Pennsylvania Farm-City Program was created in 1955 to bridge the communication gaps between our rural and urban neighbors. Without farms, cities would have no food. Without cities, farmers would have no markets and processing facilities for their products. The link between our farms and urban dwellers is vital to economic opportunity and progress throughout the state.

The program not only includes a delicious meal but special awards, door prizes, and fabulous entertainment. This year’s entertainment features Don and Gail James. Don and Gail live in Meshoppen and have a love for music, photography and travel. They enjoy photographing the natural wonders of God’s creation and present programs of slides and music. They especially search out and enjoy photographing. You will enjoy listening to Don sing hymns and patriotic songs as he projects the slides they have taken – you will also enjoy joining in on any of the songs that you know.

If you require special needs or would like to purchase tickets to this fun-filled event, call the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office at 278-1158.

Protect Your Estate From Taxes, Probate

New Milford, Pa- One goal many people have is to leave their heirs a substantial estate. Without sound financial preparation, however, the estates people spend a lifetime building can be significantly reduced by taxes, probate costs, and administrative fees.

Probate and administrative fees can consume another 10%. If you don’t have a will, probate can tie up your estate for several years. You could lose as much as 75% on your IRA or 401k to income taxes and probate.

Good financial management can help people avoid many of these problems. By using proven strategies, they can ensure that their heirs will inherit more of their property, cash, investments, and savings. They can also control important decisions such as who will be the executor of the estate and the guardian of minor children.

Thomas Chamberlain (left) and Rick Leet (right) of Nationwide Financial are presenting three special seminars on Wealth Transfer and Extended IRA Planning. These workshops will be offered on the following dates: Wednesday, November 3 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Tom Chamberlain Agency, 266 Main Street, New Milford

Saturday, November 6 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Tom Chamberlain Agency, 266 Main Street, New Milford

Saturday, November 13 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Lanesboro Community Center.

Rick Leet is a Certified Financial Planner® licensee with 20 years experience. Thomas Chamberlain is a registered representative with 25 years experience. There is no cost to attend any of these workshops.

Seating is limited, so interested people should call 465-3296 or 798-2666 to reserve a seat.

Thank Troops With Free Greeting Cards

Indianapolis – With thousands of troops deployed overseas and thousands more readying for deployment, The American Legion has re-launched a free, easy way to thank them for their service on the eve of Veterans Day, November 11.

The electronic greeting cards are also ideal to thank all veterans, of all generations, who have served in the US armed forces.

"Veterans and those serving in the military services today need to see that there are friends and family members who are proud of their sacrifices for America," Thomas P. Cadmus, national commander of The American Legion said.

Anyone who has an e-mail account can receive the special cards. Creating the card is quick at The American Legion’s website, www.legion.org. "Our troops serving overseas often have access to e-mail and they look forward to the cards that do not take up a lot of bandwidth," Cadmus said.

The American Legion site offers e-mail cards representing each military service along with the service song that plays when the card is opened. Each card provides plenty of space to compose a personal message. Cards may be sent now through November 12, 2004.

Greeting cards may be sent direct to active duty service men and women if their military e-mail addresses are known.
