Letters
to the Editor Policy
Just
the Facts
On several
occasions I have written Letters To The Editor because of the inaccuracy
or wrong information disseminated by liberal reporters. In the case
of Mr. Amadio, I found that I had to write because of his single source
reporting and lack of substantial investigation. To merely take information,
received from one source, and not verify the same, lacks professionalism.
P. Jay Amadio wrote, and I quote, "Commissioners Kelly and Warren
expressed some concern because they were not privy to initial discussions
on the Loomis plan, but were expected to rubber stamp it at a public
meeting." Mr. William Collins of Simone, Jaffe & Collins, Inc.,
the firm that completed the Montrose Area Greenbelt Study for the Edward
L. Rose Conservancy study, met with the Commissioners on June 8 at 9:30
a.m. to present his proposal. Mr. Collins contacted the Commissioners
on June 11 to inform them that the two boroughs could be added to the
grant application. At the conclusion of the June 23 Commissioners meeting,
it was moved and seconded to invite Simone, Jaffe & Collins, Inc.
to meet again with the Commissioners and with the county housing authority.
Therefore, Commissioners Kelly and Warren were not as ignorant of the
plan as Mr. Amadio reported. "Thirty minutes of investigation"
might have shown him otherwise. More recently, he stated an assumption,
presumably from Mr. Accourti, that the county might dole the monies
out to the municipalities. The aforementioned $1,000,000.00 grant was
to be applied for by the county, the boroughs of Montrose and New Milford.
The county was only to act as an umbrella agency in applying for an
80% federal Main Street grant by August 1st and a 20% state DNCR grant
by September 1st. The Greenbelt Study completed last year was the basis
study of the grant and, its having already been completed, was the reason
our county would have a head start for acceptance of the grant. These
facts didnt take long to compile, but they did take a while to
substantiate. I could go on, but I believe that I have made my point.
A note of interest, New Milford delayed spending $32,000.00 to improve
the sidewalks at their park in anticipation of the grant. Not only did
they not get $250,000.00, they must incur further expense.
Finally,
with respect to Madam Dabulas comments, I did not at any time
refer to any of our lady Commissioners as "gals." I did refer
to them as "Commissioner, Ms. and Madam(s) in order to prevent
excessive repetition. I agree that this is 2004, but I also believe
in old-fashioned values and terms of respect. My Websters Dictionary
defines Madam as a polite term of address for any woman. Furthermore,
I hold the office of Commissioner in high regard and do not believe
that gender had anything to do with their lack of vision for the county
nor do I believe it should hold them immune to public scrutiny.

To The
Undecided Voter
I have been
following the Presidential race news coverage closely, as have most
Americans, and I know what the issues are, as well as the views of both
Senator Kerry and President Bush. I am aware that there are strong feelings
on both sides, and that the American voters have an extraordinary decision
to make. That decision may have ramifications that will haunt us for
generations.
The American
voters have never been so polarized. That is why it may take the undecided
voter to tip the scales for one candidate or the other.
I agree
that the economy, better paying jobs and improved education for our
children are very important issues to the American people, as they are
to me and my family.
The point
here that I would like to make is that the constant threat of a terroristic
attack puts all things in a different perspective.
We might
be able to improve the economy, thereby generating better jobs, and
we probably could improve our educational system, whichever candidate
is elected to office, but without the United States safe from terrorism
what good will more money in our pockets or a better educational system
be?
A nationally
known professor from the University of Scranton was interviewed on television
recently. He made the statement that the next attack on the United States
of America will definitely be nuclear and there will be another attempted
attack. He was very well informed and very convincing in his arguments.
This is
what I would like the undecided voter to think about before they make
their decision.
I feel that
the number one priority for the President of the United States should
be to keep the American people safe and all other things will fall into
place.
Remember,
terrorists are lethal, evil-minded cowards, who have no respect for
life, especially not yours or mine.
Please go
to vote and keep these things in mind when you do so.
Sincerely,
Marie Gulbin

Attention,
Motorists!
Please be
advised that the Susquehanna Community School District is operating
a half-day, pre-kindergarten program. The students in this program are
bused to and from the district at times other than early morning and
late afternoon. Over the past few weeks, many instances of vehicles
passing the pre-kindergarten school buses have occurred. It is a violation
of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and a severe safety hazard to pass
a stopped school bus. Please be aware that school buses are on the road
between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. daily. Your cautious driving is greatly
appreciated.
Sincerely,
Bronson
