Making Your Own Grow Light Stand

Join Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Jim Kasten and Lori Wallace for a great late winter project to break the winter blues. Spring is just around the corner, so get a jump on your seedlings. Come to a "hands on" course to make your own table top grow light stand out of PVC piping on Saturday, March 24th, from 10 am-12 noon at St Mark’s Parish Hall in New Milford. The stand is easy to make using a standard 4 foot shop light and is easy to store when you are not using it. Get a few tips on seed starting also.  “Store bought” stands begin at $70.00 and can run into hundreds of dollars.  The material cost for each adjustable homemade light stand is $45.00, which includes the light.  On your Montrose Area Adult School registration form, please indicate the number of light stands you wish to build and add the cost to your registration fee which is $5.   Deadline to order materials is: March 16th.  Or, you may just simply listen to the discussion and observe the building of the light stands.

For more information or help registering call Penn State Extension Office at 570-666-9003.

Nanticoke Gardens Greenhouses Tour

Back by popular demand! Join the Montrose Area Adult School for a behind the scenes look at Nanticoke Gardens in Endicott, NY on Thursday, March 22! Our tour last year was wonderful and we were treated like royalty! Many people have requested that we do it again! Have you ever wondered what it takes to grow all those annuals and perennials you see at your local garden center?  How do they get them blooming by May?  Since 1973, Nanticoke Gardens has been the area’s premier grower of high quality bedding plants and poinsettias; growing plants from seed or cuttings to provide their customers with the highest quality plant that has been acclimated to the area. Come join us for a behind the scenes tour of the Nanticoke Greenhouses at their busiest time of year, spring.  The tour, organized by Penn State Extension Master Gardener Coordinator of Susquehanna County Lori Wallace, for the Montrose Area Adult School, will include both of their facilities. We will meet at the Price Chopper Parking lot in Montrose at 8:30 am and divide into carpooling teams or you may meet us at the greenhouses by 9:45am. The address for the greenhouses is: 1543 Union Center-Maine Hwy. Route 26 North, Endicott, NY. Tour will take approximately 2 hours.

To register visit: Montrose Adult School www.montroseadultschool.org. Click the Classes link. You can print out a registration form under the HOW TO REGISTER section. For more information or help registering call Penn State Extension Office at 570.278.1158.
