Susquehanna Visits Binghamton
Submitted By Bridget Milos, Guidance Counselor
On Friday, November 17th, students from Susquehanna Community High School visited Binghamton University. This trip was planned and organized by Dr. Warren DeWitt and his wife Nancy. As of last year, they have created the new “DeWitt Family Health Care Scholarship”, in the amount of $40,000-$80,000 for a student from Susquehanna Community attending either Binghamton University or SUNY Broome and majoring in the healthcare field.
Each year, the DeWitt family takes juniors and seniors who are interested in studying these programs, to visit Binghamton University (and Broome). Students were greeted by admissions staff as soon as they arrived on campus. A student from Binghamton spent most of the morning with our students touring the campus, and giving an in-depth view of what their school has to offer. Following the campus tour, a representative from the pharmacy graduate program spoke to our students about the admissions process and their new School of Pharmacy. Students ended their day by having lunch on campus, provided by the DeWitt family.
On behalf of the students at Susquehanna Community, we thank Dr. Warren and Nancy DeWitt for providing such an amazing and educational experience for our students, and their ongoing support to our school and community.

Veterans Welcome To Attend SCCTC
Thousands of service men and women transition annually from military jobs to civilian life. Whether an individual is facing military transition after a full career in the armed forces, was a member of the National Guard or Reserve, or was enlisted, veterans have both special privileges and special needs in their job transitions. Re-entry into the workforce after any period of absence has its challenges. The Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center is striving to help meet the needs of military veterans by providing educational opportunities to these deserving veterans.
Men or women who have or are now serving our country are eligible for scholarships from The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains. These funds may be used to attend the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center. Veterans, Reservists and National Guard members who have exhausted all federal education benefits and want to attend the SCCTC can apply at www.community-foundation.org
Full-time adult programs available at the SCCTC include: Building & Property Maintenance, Cosmetology, Welding Technology, Massage Therapy and Practical Nursing Programs. Short-term programs include: Cosmetology Teacher Program, Esthetician, Manicurist/Nail Tech License Program and short term welding programs are also available. The Community Foundation Grant is available for any program offered at the SCCTC.
If you are a veteran and are eligible for the GI Bill, please go to www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/getstarted.asp or contact your Veterans Representative. That website will provide you with an application for benefits which you must complete to receive information regarding your eligibility for benefits. If you have already filed an application for benefits online, bring a copy of that application or your certificate of eligibility to the Financial Aid Office. Once accepted, the SCCTC staff then supplies the Veterans’ Administration with the enrollment certification that indicates you are a student so you can receive your monthly benefits. These benefits, if you are eligible, may also be transferred to an immediate family member (spouse or child).
Dr. Alice M. Davis, SCCTC Executive Director, stated “The SCCTC is proud to support our veterans, and we look forward to training them for their future after military service. Our goal is to teach them the skills they need in order to obtain jobs that will be prosperous and fulfilling for them.”
