SEPTEMBER 29

FREE MOVIE NIGHT: Come sit under the stars and enjoy the featured movie, The Wizard Of Oz. Bring your family, a lawn chair or blanket on Friday, September 29th at dusk. Rain Date is September 30th. Held on the St. Lawrence grounds, 380 Franklin St. Great Bend, PA.

SEPTEMBER 30

ROAST BEEF SUPPER: The Thompson United Methodist Church, located at 586 Main Street, Thompson PA, will be having a roast beef supper on Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2017, at 5PM. Take-out is also available, starting at 4:30PM. All are welcome!

OCTOBER 2

MEETING: The Annual Meeting of the North Jackson Cemetery Association will be Tuesday, October 2, at 7PM at the North Jackson United Methodist Church.

OCTOBER 5

CHICKEN N BISCUIT: The VFW Auxiliary, located at 386 Main St., Great Bend, PA, will be having a chicken n biscuit dinner on Thursday, October 5. The dinner will start at 5PM and will go until sold-out. All you can eat, and take-out is also available.

OCTOBER 7

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: The East Ararat United Methodist Church will be having a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, October 7th from 7AM to 11AM.

OCTOBER 10

WIMPIE LUNCH: Tuesday, October 10th the Starrucca Baptist Church will be having a wimpie luncheon in the social room. Serving will begin at 12PM. The luncheon is sponsored by the Starrucca Bag Ladies. All are welccome.

OCTOBER 14

SPAGHETTI DINNER: The Sanitaria Springs Fire Company will be having a Spaghetti Dinner on October 14th, starting at 4PM. It will be held at the fire station, located at 811 N.Y. Rte 11, Sanitaria Springs, N.Y. Dinner will include salad bar, dessert and drink.

OCTOBER 18

CHICKEN N BISCUIT DINNER:  The Clifford United Methodist Church, Main Street, Clifford, will be having a Chicken-n-Biscuit or Ham Dinner on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017 from 4PM to 6PM. It will include dinner, drink and dessert. Take-Out will also be available.

FREE LUNCH: St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, located on St. Rt 92 and 492, Jackson PA, will be having a free parish and community lunch on Wednesday, October 18th. The lunch will be from 12PM to 1:30PM and will include, stuffed cabbage, roll, dessert and beverage. Reservations are required, please call Joanne at 570-727-3441

OCTOBER 21

HARVEST DINNER: The East Ararat Methodist Church will be holding a Harvest Dinner on Saturday, October 21. Take-out will be available from 3:30PM to 4:30PM. Dine-in, will begin at 5PM. Monday: Turkey Sausage, Diner Potatoes, French Toast with Syrup and Tropical Fruit

Tuesday: Lemon Pepper Chicken, Green and Wax Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Whole Wheat Roll and Rice Pudding.

Wednesday: Crispy Baked Fish, Potatoes Au Gratin, Garlic Spinach, Whole Wheat Roll and Orange.

Thursday: Thyme Roasted Turkey, Brussels Sprouts, Sweet Potatoes, Whole Wheat Roll and Cinnamon Baked Apples.

Agency On Aging Public Hearings

The Area Agency on Aging for the Counties of Bradford, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Tioga Counties will conduct a public hearing at the Blue Ridge Senior Center, located at 81 Franklin Street, Great Bend, PA 18821, on Monday, October 9 at 12:00 noon.

The purpose of the public hearing is to inform the public of proposed aging services and program initiatives available in fiscal year 2017/18. It is also an opportunity for individuals to offer feedback and ask questions about aging services.

The Area Agency on Aging offers a comprehensive array of services geared to helping older persons remain in their own homes and offering support to caregivers. For more information please call 1-800-982-4346.

Beef Producer Field Day Set

Penn State Extension and the Pennsylvania Beef Producer Working Group are sponsoring a field day that will take place on Saturday, October 7th in Susquehanna County. Hepler Farm, located at 2232 State Route 1018, Franklin Hill Road, Hallstead, PA will be hosting the event, from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and will include lunch.

The event will feature topics including reclamation of reverted land for grazing, pasture management, supplementation on pasture, and marketing and economics related to a grazing operation. Penn State Extension speakers at the meeting will be Dr. Jessica Williamson, extension forage specialist, and Dave Hartman, extension educator. Members of the Hepler family will discuss management practices that they have employed on their farm.

Children's Choir Begins Season

The Endless Mountains Children’s Choir will begin the Fall/Winter season on Thursday, October 6, 2016 6:30PM to 8:00PM with a first rehearsal at the South Gibson United Methodist Church in South Gibson, PA.  Any child is welcome. We are always hoping to have MORE children join our choir and our musical family. There is no tuition fee or cost required to join the choir. Choir robes are provided to the children.  All funds are generated by generous community support from our fund raising events and from private and community donations.

The children have the opportunity to learn and perform various types of choral literature including classical music of many great composers; folk songs from many countries; gospel and sacred music; Latin chant; multi-cultural music from many countries (they have performed music  in 13 foreign languages); music in American  sign language; popular music; music from broadway shows.

The choir is a community choir which rehearses once a week on Thursdays,  6:30PM to 8:00PM at the South Gibson United Methodist Church.  The children have performed many holiday concerts at local hospitals, nursing homes, local tree lighting and holiday performances at the capital in Harrisburg.  This year we plan to perform an evening holiday performance at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C.; we are awaiting our performance date and time assignment.

Other concerts the choir has performed include: the Harford Fair; holiday concerts  three times at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C.; the Kasciusko Day Observance at West Point; performances at the Lithuanian Heritage Day at the Anthracite Museum; a holiday performance for the Susquehanna County Daughters of the American Revolution; performances at the Mt. View Distinguisted Alumni Awards.  

In addition, choir members are offered advanced oppportunities to audition for the American Choiral Directors Pa All State Honors Choir; American Choral Directors -National Children’s Elementary Honors Choir; National Junior High /Middle School Honors Choir; American Choral Directors  All Eastern Division Children’s Honors Choir; All-Eastern Division Junior High/ Middle School Honors Choir. We have had children in all of these honors choirs. We have had choir members participate in the Carnegie Hall Honors Performance Series.

Free Winter Coats Are Available

Coats For The Community is coming to Susquehanna, sponsored by the American Legion Post 154, Montrose, Pa and Christ Episcopal Church, 1107 West Main Street, Susquehanna.

A free winter coat (all sizes) distribution will take place on Friday, October 13 from 11AM to 5PM and Saturday, October 14 from 9AM to 3PM.

There are many new and lightly used clean coats, hats, gloves, scarves and blankets that are free to all, no questions, no qualifications.

Donations of winter coats are welcome at Christ Church, Susquehanna, during the hours. All coats must be clean and in working (zippers, pockets, etc.) condition.

Any amount of monetary support is welcome. Please make checks payable to “Coats for the Community” and mail directly to: The American Legion Post 154, Elk Lake Road, Montrose, PA 18801.
