Rifle Shoot Fund Raiser

The Susquehanna Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA) will hold a special fund raising rifle shoot in memory of an exceptional branch director, Rusty Ely. The First Annual Rusty Ely (RELY) Memorial Lever Gun Challenge shoot will be hosted at Rock Mt. Sporting Clays (RMSC) located west of Springville (Susquehanna County).

The August 19th fund raising shoot will be for lever action and other rifles. Shooters will shoot free hand at 10 steel targets ranging from 50 to 135 yards. Shooters can enter more than once.   The highest scoring lever action rifle shooter will win a blue stone trophy, the “RELY Memorial Trophy“.  The winner will be determined by the most shots hitting the targets in the fastest amount of time. Shooters shooting other than lever action rifles will be welcome to the fund raising shoot but will not be able to win the trophy. (Mr. Ely was especially fond of lever action guns.)The shoot will start at 9am and continue to 1pm. A lunch of beef brisket or pulled pork will be available for purchase.

ALL of the money raised from the shoot and lunch will go to a scholarship fund that the Ely family is in the process of establishing. The scholarship will be for a Montrose Area High School student who will be furthering their education.  If you cannot make it to the shoot but would like to contribute to the effort, call Mike or Susan Koneski at RMSC 570-965-7625.

Mike Koneski Susquehanna Branch President stated,“We,  the Branch officers and directors (past and present), have great memories of  Rusty. He had a zest for life and exhibited a genuine interest in people. He really got into educating people about aging deer by using the jawbone of the deer. He was particularly fond of his lever action rifle, which he used to hunt bear and deer in Pennsylvania, New York and Maine.”   For directions to RMSC go to www.rockmountainclays.com.
