JULY 27

PANCAKE SUPPER: St. John The Evangelist Church will be holding a pancake supper on Thursday, July 27th. It will be held from 5PM to 7PM, at the St. John’s Parish Hall, 15 East Church Street, Susquehanna, PA. The dinner will include, regular and gluten free pancakes, eggs, sausage, homefries, applesauce, beverage and dessert.

JULY 28

MOVIE NIGHT: St. Lawrence Church presents movie night on the green on Friday, July 28, located at 380 Franklin Street, Great Bend PA. The featured movie will be 2017 Beauty and the Beast, presented on a jumbo screen tv. Admission is free and will be a great night out for all ages. Bring a lawn chair or blanket along with your favorite snacks. Movie starts at dusk. Rain date is July 29.

JULY 29

ROAST BEEF SUPPER: The Thompson United Methodist Church, located at 586 Main Street, Thompson PA, will be holding a Roast Beef Supper on Saturday, July 29. Take-out is at 4:30PM and dine-in is at 5PM. All are welcome!

JULY 30

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION: Julia Drake celebrated her 100th birthday on July 12. The Susquehanna United Methodist Church, located on Main Street, Susquehanna, will be holding a celebration of life in Julia’s honor, on Sunday, July 30th. It will begin with a service at 11am, with cake and ice cream to follow. All who wish to attend are welcome.

OUTDOOR CHURCH SERVICE: The South Gibson UMC will be holding an outdoor service and potluck lunch at 10:30am, Sunday July 30. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided, please bring dish to share and a lawn chair. Rain or shine, all are welcome. For more info call, 570-396-5255

AUGUST 6

FAMILY REUNION: The Annual Stevens Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 12:30PM at the home of Rich & Fran Valentine, 258 State Route 2051, Montrose, PA 18801 located 1.5 miles from the Route 29 blinker in South Montrose when turning onto Bendix road. Look for reunion signs. Please bring your own table service and a covered dish/dessert to share. Hamburgers, hot dogs, bbq chicken and beverages will be provided. Descendants of Aden, Cyrus, Oliver & Harvey Stevens are welcome to attend. If you are not sure come anyway and we’ll help you figure it out. COMMUNITY FUN DAY: The St. Lawrence Church, located at 380 Franklin St, Great Bend, PA, will be holding it’s Community Fun Day on Sunday, August 6th from 11:30AM to 5PM. There will be a chicken bbq, which will include chicken, salt potatoes, cole slaw, roll and dessert. You can call 570-853-4634 to reserve your ticket. The Fun Day will also include a bounce house, giant water slide, baby pool, music, basket raffles, vendors, pie sale and contest, jelly/jam canning contest, hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, ice cream and much more! Come enjoy a fun filled afternoon and relax in the country atmosphere.

AUGUST 11 and 12

PERSEID METEOR SHOWER: Join Salt Springs Park on August 11 or 12. Meet at the Wheaton House by 9PM and walk out to an open field to enjoy the falling stars. Feel free to bring blankets, lawn chairs, viewing cameras or telescopes. Guest’s may also bring snacks if desired. There will be a bonfire if the night is chilly.

AUGUST 12

HOLY COW FLOP BBQ: St. Pius X Church located at 3615 SR 106, Clifford Twp. PA,will be holding its Royal Holy Cow Flop BBQ on Saturday, August 12th from 12PM to 6PM. It includes Kundla’s chicken, refreshments, raffles, games, prizes and music. Tickets at the door or call Tina 570-254-9502

AUGUST 16

HAM/CHICKEN BISCUIT DINNER: The Clifford United Methodist Church, located on Main Street Clifford, will be having a chicken and biscuit or ham dinner. Take out or dine in, on Wednesday August 16th from 4PM to 6PM. Includes dinner, dessert and drink.

SEPTEMBER 9

ROAST BEEF/TURKEY DINNER: The South Creek Lions Club will be holding a Roast Beef and Turkey dinner on Saturday, September 9th, 4:30PM at the Lions Hall on Route 14 in Gillett. The meal includes real mashed potatoes, vegetables, baked beans, homemade bread and home baked pies for dessert. Beverages include Coffee, Tea, and Lemonade. Take-Out is available.

Monday: Beef Fajita Salad, Chuckwagon Corn, Whole Wheat Roll and Oatmeal Cookie.

Tuesday: Oven-Fried Chicken, Roasted Red Potatoes, Green Beans, Biscuit and Pear.

Wednesday: Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Cauliflower and Peas, Whole Wheat Roll and Pineapple Fluff Gelatin.

Thursday: Rotisserie Turkey, Sweet Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli, Whole Wheat Roll and Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Friday: Pork Chop, Southern Style Spinach, Mashed Potatoes, Whole Wheat Roll and Cinnamon-Baked Apples

Civil War Round Table Meeting

The Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table will meet on Thursday August 10, 2017 at 7PM in the lower level of the Daddow-Isaacs American Legion, 730 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA.

The program for the evening is entitled “Civil War Surgeon” and presented by Mr. Robert Marut, who has been portraying a Civil War surgeon since 2005. During the program, Mr. Marut will discuss medicines used during the time period, the soldier's diet and medical training. A surgeons' kit, period medical instruments and a Civil War medicine chest will be on display.

Mr. Marut, along with his wife, have been participating in Living History events at battlefields, schools and museums throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. You can find the Marut's at the Heritage Museum in Gettysburg on numerous weekends and also at the Barton House during the annual Bloomsburg Fair.

The program is now open to the public.

Farm Bureau Sets Legislative Tour

The Susquehanna County Farm Bureau (SCFB) will host the Annual Legislative Tour on August 9, 2017. The Tour will start at Fairdale at 10:00am, a lunch stop at the South Auburn Grange and will end at the last site at 3:00pm. Elected state and county officials who serve the counties of Susquehanna, Wyoming, Lackawanna, Wayne, and Pike (District 1 of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau) are being invited to this event.

The tour is intended to help the legislators, county officials and local residents acquire a better understanding of the many facets of farm operations. They will meet with actual farmers who are making a positive change in their operation and the environment. Members of the public citizenry can also take part in the event by registering via the numbers listed below.

This year’s educational tour will visit:

1) The Claude Bennett Family Farm which is a 120 cow/calf Beef Farm. Highlights will feature a 60’ X 186’ Roofed (Overshot Roof) Concreted Barnyard with an attached Manure Storage, fenced off riparian buffers, rotationally grazed pastures. The Bennett Family Farm was presented with the PACD “2017 Regional Clean Water Award” this past July.

2) The Joe and Carolyn Conboy Farm which is a 140 head Beef farm. Highlighted features include a 60’ X 160’ Roofed (Mono-slope) Concreted Barnyard which uses a Bedded-Pack (hay bedding with manure) as a Manure Storage, fenced off riparian buffers and a newly constructed access road.

3) The Gerald and Tina Carlin Farm which is a Fresh Vegetable Farm with many Hi-Tunnels, a Store and acres of Hay Mulched Vegetables in conjunction of their Beef Operation. They sell their fresh and frozen beef from the Farm Store.

4) A July 2017 Auburn Township Dirt and Gravel Road Improvement Project on White Pond Road. The Dirt and Gravel Road Program is not only a road improvement program but one which provides significant water quality improvement.

5) The Richard and Charlotte Place Farm is a 120 head Beef Farm. Highlighted features include 3 different Concreted Barnyard each with its own Manure Stacking Facility, their beautiful house and nicely maintained farm buildings. The Place's also operate a commercial deer farm featuring Red Deer and White Tail Deer.
