Letters to the Editor Policy

I Think He's Crazy

We've always known him to be egomaniacal and nasty.  But since taking office he's become more erratic.  He may be sleep deprived, firing off tweets in the wee hours of the morning to make petty personal attacks.  But it's worse than that.  We need to seriously ask, is the President insane?

A working definition of insane is possessing delusional beliefs, believing things that do not accord with reality.  Well, below are some strange beliefs of the current Chief Executive:

-- He not only insisted that his Inaugural crowd (est. 160,000) was bigger than Obama's (over a million), he demanded the National Park Service provide a revised estimate in line with his.

-- He insisted that 3-5 million illegal aliens voted, and that none of them voted for him (as if he were in the booth with each and every one of them).

-- He also insisted that illegal voters were bused into New Hampshire from Massachusetts.  (Zero evidence again.)

-- He claimed that the murder rate it at a 47 year high, but the media refuses to publicize it.  The FBI's Uniform Crime Report has it near a 57 year low.

-- He referred to a terrorist attack in Sweden that, once again, the media refused to cover.
-- He accused President Obama of wiretapping him.  The FBI, the former CIA head, and the former Director of National Intelligence-- who would know-- flatly reject this claim.  (They must be part of the conspiracy!)

I ask, are these sane behaviors?  I doubt it.  If you deem them sane, then they're both laughably untrue and evidence of a highly immature character.  And that's not good, either.  Plus the last one is libelous, which is criminal.  Any way you look at it, his behavior is a matter of deep concern.  He is steadily undermining the credibility a President needs.

Some think he is crazy like a fox-- distracting the media and the rest of us with utter nonsense, so we don't see what he is really up to.  But rather than crazy like a fox, I think he is just plain crazy.  And we need to worry.  As a political strategy, it's wretched, and it's not working anyway.  To resort to it would be, well, crazy.

I think he needs to be subjected to psychological examination.  The Vice President needs to invoke the 25th Amendment [Section 4], declare the President to be incapacitated, and take over as Acting President.  Before he does something rash, like order a nuclear strike for petty personal reasons.

Sincerely,

Stephen Van Eck
