Mr. Marc Weisgold, Elementary Principal at the Elk Lake School, is pleased to announce the December 2016 Student of the Month Award winners. Students are in Kindergarten through sixth grade.

Senior Emily Stankiewicz has been selected as Montrose Area High School Scholar of the Year. Her radio interview took place Sunday, January 15 on the University of Scranton Radio Station WUSR-99.5 FM. The Scholar of the Year Program is sponsored by the Northeast Educational Intermediate Unit #19 and WUSR - 99.5 FM. One senior student from each high school in the intermediate unit is selected on the basis of academic excellence, leadership, and citizenship. In addition to the broadcast interviews, the scholars and their parents will be honored with a banquet at the end of the school year.
Emily is the daughter of Eric and Lynn Stankiewicz of Montrose. Emily is involved in many school and community activities.
She is a very talented young lady with many awards and achievements both in the classroom and the community. As part of our school community, Emily has been Class Secretary for 4 years and a member of Student Council. She is also a member of the Advanced Placement Club, National Honor Society, French Club (Treasurer), Varsity Club and IONS Chemistry Club. She has been a Peer Tutor for the past two years through the National Honor Society Tutoring Program. Emily has been a varsity player on the Volleyball Team as well as Captain this year and has been a varsity player on the Softball Team. Emily has been the Montrose Area delegate to the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards as well as being honored as Student of the Month.
In addition to her busy academic and extracurricular day, Emily is a volunteer at the Food Bank Service and a member of the Northeast Alliance Volleyball Club and she works at a local restaurant. Emily plans to attend the college and pursue a degree in Computer Science.
