Elk Lake Gets 1 Million Words
Congratulations to the following 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who have attained over one million words in the accelerated reader program at Elk Lake Elementary School.

The students read books and were awarded points after they successfully passed computerized quizzes. Elk Lake PTO generously sponsored incentive prizes for the program which included a pizza and pool party at the end of the school year.

NJD BPW Picks GIRL OF YEAR

Alyssa Hubal was honored at the May 26, 2016 meeting of the NJD BPW as our Girl of the Year. Alyssa is the Valedictorian for the class of 2016 at Susquehanna Community High School.

Pictured (L-R) are: Carol Dubas- monthly chair, Mary Ann Warren- Susquehanna County Commisioner, George Hubal- Father of the girl of the year, Nina Hubal- mother of the girl of the year, Linda Bedford - President NJD BPW, Alyssa Hubal- Girl of the Year, Gay Keyes- NJD BPW secretary, Lori Hubal- District Eight BPW President.
Alyssa was involved with many activities and sports while attending high school. Alyssa will be attending Loyola University , Maryland, to major in biology with pre-medical advising in the fall.

Montrose Senior Earns Scholarship
Victoria Hinds received the scholarship awarded by the Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). The award was presented at the Senior Awards Night at Montrose Area High School. Gary Parker, president elect of the state PASR, and Ellen Holdredge, Ed Support Chair of the Susquehanna Chapter, made the presentation.

During her years at Montrose, Victoria played tennis and softball. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Varsity Club, and Vice President of French Club. Victoria is also active in her church. She is the daughter of Steven and Michele Hinds.
In the fall, she will be attending Geneva College to pursue a degree in elementary education. Her goal is to positively influence young children and inspire them to love learning.
