Mt. View To Host Family Breakfast
Submitted by Robert Presley
On Thursday, December 3, 2015, students, staff, and faculty of the Mountain View School District will celebrate our tight-knit community through Family & Consumer Sciences Day—the national celebration that educates families about the importance of preparing healthy meals and “Dining In” together.

Pictured (l-r) are: front row - Elaine M. Chichura, D. Ed., Peter Regeski, Robert Presley, Erin Oakley, Karen Voigt, Christine Kelly, Ralph Welch, Bob Taylor; back row - Jacelyn Evans, Alyssa Stankiewicz, Douglas Martin, Joshua Johnson, Robert Gray, MacKenzie Jeruald, Shauna Howey, Julia Pinturier, Emma Loch.
On that day, the Mountain View School District family plans to share breakfast together. The Mountain View School District will be providing a home style breakfast to all students, faculty, and staff in both the high school and the elementary school buildings. Prior to December 3rd students at the high school will vote on items to be included on the menu.
In an effort to further cultivate a culture of connectedness and to encourage families to prepare and eat a healthy meal together at home, students in the Foods I class along with Elaine M. Chichura, D.Ed., Family and Consumer Sciences teacher; Robert Presley, Christine Kelly, high school and elementary school principals respectively; Erin Oakley, Food Service Director; Diana Slick, Counselor for At-Risk Elementary Students; Pete Regeski, high school librarian have planned this district wide breakfast. Students and adults will share a meal while having an opportunity to socialize outside of the traditional classroom setting.
In addition to sharing a meal in school, individuals are encouraged to join in a national campaign sponsored by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS). Individuals can show their support for the “Dine In” campaign by committing to “Dine In” on the AAFCS web site. Their commitment to the project will appear on an interactive map on the web site. In 2014, more than 100,000 people worldwide committed to preparing and eating a healthy meal with their families on December 3rd. In 2015, the goal is have 200,000 people worldwide commit to “Dine In”.
With the numerous benefits to families preparing and sharing meals together, “Dine In” in school or at home calls attention to something simple that families can do to be healthier. “We are proud to take part in this important initiative,” Chichura said.
December 3rd was chosen as Family & Consumer Sciences Day to honor AAFCS Founder Ellen Swallow Richards, first female graduate of MIT.

A World War II Radio Christmas
Submitted by Margie McCarty
The Mt. View High School Drama Club will present “World War II Radio Christmas” on Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5 at 7:00pm both evenings in the Norman J. Maza Auditorium of the high school, Route 106 in Kingsley.
The play, written by Pat Kruis Tellinghusen, gives a poignant glimpse into life during the holidays in 1944. Actors gather in a radio studio to record a special Christmas program to be broadcast over the Armed Forces Network on Christmas Day, 1944. We visit mailrooms, battlefields, and hospitals where we hear the soldier’s stories. We hear postcards and letters sent from loving family members and from the soldiers who miss them. We hear from the program’s sponsors, Scot Tissue and Vaseline Hair Tonic.
The audience is a part of the play, joining the actors to sing familiar carols and wish “Merry Christmas” to all those fighting overseas.
Tickets are available at the door each evening.
