Linda Truman, elementary special education teacher, and Thomas Cantone, custodian, received the Lauretta Woodson Awards for an educator and a support staff member at the Montrose Area School District school board meeting on May 11.
The award is named for Dr. Lauretta Woodosn, who was a prominent Pennsylvania educator and an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). She left a bequest to honor those who have exhibited creativity, initiative, and productivity relative to the learning process and growth of children and who have had a positive influence on the learning process.

Ellen Holdredge, Educational Support chairperson of the Susquehanna Chapter of PASR presented the awards, assisted by Gary Parker, president elect of the state PASR, Bob MacNamara, president of the Susquehanna Chapter, and John Manchester, president elect of the Susquehanna Chapter.
Linda Truman has been a dedicated special education educator for 36 years. During that time, she has helped countless students maximize their academic potential. By working with parents to understand the transitioning of their children to the junior senior high school, she has helped to ease that adjustment. Mrs. Truman has worked for the betterment of her students.
Receiving the Woodson Award for support staff was Thomas Cantone. He is the custodian at the Lathrop Street Elementary. It takes a village to educate a child and Mr. Cantone is a big part of that village. He knows the names of many of the students and exhibits a positive attitude as he works. His has helped create a clean and happy environment for students, faculty, and community members who use the facility. He strives to make Lathrop Street Elementary a great place to be.
Both Truman and Cantone exemplify the goals of the Woodson Award. Each received a framed certificate, a medal, and a restaurant gift card. They are dedicated individuals who have had positive influences on the elementary students in the Montrose Area School District. The Susquehanna Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) was pleased to honor them with these awards.
