Local NWTF Draws Winning Tickets

On April 2 the Wilson F. Moore (WFM) Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) drew the winning tickets on its 2 gun raffle.

The winner of the .270 rifle is James Ross of Chenango Forks, NY and the winner of the 12 gauge shotgun is Dave Cronk of Montrose, Pa.

Pictured (l-r) are Wilson F. Moore Chapter of NWTF treasurer Tom Norville holding the two gun raffle winning tickets, Dave Wilcox holding the customized shotgun stock, and Chapter president Jack Sorber.

According to Dave Wilcox Life Member of the NWTF and current Board of Director member of the WFM Chapter, “The 2 guns were customized to honor Wilson F. Moore.  The Winchester Model 70 Black Shadow .270 has a Bronze NWTF medallion embedded in the stock and has 30th Anniversary Wilson F. Moore Chapter 2015 engraved in the floor plate. The Remington Express Magnum 12 gauge has a likeness of Wilson’s face and Wilson F. Moore Chapter NWTF - 2015 30th Anniversary engraved in the stock.”

Tom Norville, WFM Chapter Treasurer stated, “The raffles success exceeded our expectations. We have raised $3000 for the local chapters’ use.”

Chapter President Jack Sorber added, “The Chapter Officers and Board of Director members want to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets and the companies that allowed us to sell tickets at their businesses. The WFM NWTF chapter will put these funds to local use on various habitat improvement projects on State Game Lands in Susquehanna and Bradford Counties and for educational outreach for youth.”

United Way Funds Mobile Pantry

United Way of Susquehanna County in partnership with Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank has agreed to fund a used storage freezer for the Lawton, PA mobile food pantry. This pantry serves residents in need in one of the most remote parts of the county.  The freezer will allow for a more diverse distribution of food.

The county outreach representative from the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank, Ingrid Balsamo, shared that many of the 50-70 families who seek assistance for food insecurities at this pantry are living in difficult conditions. Many of those seeking aid at this pantry are senior citizens and families with young children in the household.

Special thanks to all of the volunteers who support our local food pantries through their donation of time and food contributions. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the local food pantry nearest you as they can always use the assistance. It is most humbling to know that friends, neighbors, and co-workers are seeking help through the generosity of others. Many are senior citizens, military veterans and families with young children in the household.

United Way of Susquehanna County and the Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank are working on various initiatives to address food insecurity issues in Susquehanna County. To locate a food pantry nearest you if you are experiencing food insecurities in your home and need help, please contact the county outreach representative at  570-550-1594, visit the United Way website at unitedwayofsusquehannacounty.org or call 2-1-1 (for those not able to access 2-1-1 please dial 1-888-829-1341).

Pet Of The Week

Shimmer

Shimmer is a beauty.  She has been a good girl at the shelter.  She is friendly and likes most of the dogs.  She is spayed.  She was originally found stray on West Nicholson Rd.  She would need a little training and a family with a medium activity level.  She likes to be a couch potato once in awhile.  The shelter is at full capacity with most of the animals being brought in stray.  Please be a responsible guardian and treat your companions like the loyal friends they are.  Come in and get a raffle ticket to help Lindie, our little cat that has had a rough go and a good amount of veterinary attention.  The prize is a large picture frame full of lottery scratch offs.  You can help our residents and perhaps yourself.  The weather is getting better (well, eventually) and maybe you can fit dog walking into your exercise and/or weight loss program.  We can find a dog needing some fresh air and matching your physical limits (must be 18 or older).  Come in and find out more.  We are also in need of canned dog food.  Thank to all who donate and support True Friends.
