Update On Recreation Center

The non-profit organization titled “The Susquehanna County Recreation Center” has been seeking support from community members. Recently, a graduate of the Mountain View School District has donated to the organization in a unique way.

Melinda Bennett (Owens) has a degree in visual arts with a minor in graphic design, and when she heard about the recreation center project, she offered to help in any way she could. She has her own graphic design company, Brilliant Mix. She reached out to the board of directors and asked if they were in need of a logo.

The President of the Board, Ashley Kilmer, commented on the donation and its impact. “Mindy is a talented graphic designer and when she offered to help we were very happy. Having a professional offer to donate his or her services will be an essential part of our organization’s success. The best resource in this county is people and the highlight of this donation is that Mrs. Bennett took what she had to offer and gave it to the Susquehanna County Recreation Center. I hope that other people will do the same and see that a person does not have to have a great deal of money to help. We are searching for people who will just simply give what they have. Nothing more, nothing less.”

The Susquehanna County Recreation Center (SCRC) is excited to see the community’s support continuing to grow. Financial support has been received from the 21 Hoops organization, Ray Wilmarth, Terry Wise, and another anonymous donation. Over $8,000 has been raised so far. This total of financial support has come from over 20 different organizations or individuals many of which are municipalities and school districts.

Another big announcement is that there have also been two different land donations offered. One parcel from the New Milford Borough and one parcel from Cecil Kilmer. These properties are being explored to see if they will be suitable for the recreation center.

Also, the Susquehanna County Recreation Center organization is conducting a survey to evaluate the needs and wants of the county for a recreation facility and they would really appreciate your input. The link is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TW7HVJD

You can find also the link to the survey on some school district websites.

In the next few months the SCRC is looking to raise $15,000 in order to file for their own 501 (c)(3) status, launch a website, get professional drawings of the facility, and also begin their "Jump Start" which will begin in the upcoming months.  Donations to benefit the Susquehanna County Recreation Center may be sent to The Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains at 270 Lake Avenue Montrose, PA 18801 or can be made online at www.community-foundation.org.

You can keep up with the progress of the SCRC by “liking” their Facebook page titled “SusquehannaCountyRecreationCenter”. If you are interested in being involved in this project in any way, please contact Ashley Kilmer by email or phone, alkilmer_32@yahoo.com or (570) 280-6263.
