The Elk Lake Forensics Team wrapped up its season in successful fashion at the Pennsylvania High School Speech League State Championship at Susquehanna University on March 20-21.

At the State Championship, Elk Lake advanced three separate competitors into the elimination rounds at the tournament. 

Leading the team, senior Keeley Carney advanced to the Quarter-Final Round in Lincoln-Douglas Debate by compiling a preliminary round record of three wins and one loss.

Carney lost her Quarter-Final round and placed 7th overall in the State in LD Debate.

Senior Haley Skinner, in supplemental Student Congress, advanced out of the preliminary House to the Super Session.  In the Super Session, she placed 7th out of 18 competitors in the Chamber.

In Impromptu Speaking, the State Championship’s largest ever, junior Mika Smith advanced out of the preliminary rounds into the Quarter-Final round and placed in the top 24 out of 80 competitors in the event.

 “This was a very strong ending to the season.  The team really came together at this tournament,” commented EL Forensics Director Keith Brosious.

The team will compete next at the Spartan Invitational Tournament at Southern Lehigh HS on April 25.  This will be their last tournament before attending Catholic Forensics Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, FL over Memorial Day Weekend.
