EMCC To Perform At National Tree

Dr. Christine Plonski Sezer founder/artistic director of the Endless Mountians  Children’s Choir proudly announces that the children will be performing a holiday concert at the National Christmas Tree in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, December 20, 5:00PM to 5:30PM.

The choir has a busy holiday concert schedule in the month of December.  Some of the concerts will be a holiday concert at the PA capitol in Harrisburg on Friday, December 5 at 12:00 PM; a performance at the Rosemont Inn in Montrose on December 6; tree lighting at the South Gibson United Methodist Church on December 13 at 7:00 PM. The children will also be sharing holiday music at local nursing homes and hospitals. Their other performance dates as they are confirmed will be published so you will have an opportunity to enjoy their concerts.

The choir will be having fund raising events to raise money for their upcoming trips. The first will be an International Dinner on November 15 at the South Gibson United Methodist Church (more details about that event will follow in a future article).  The children will also taking orders for Christmas poinsettias during the month of November.  This is one of the main fundraisers that the choir has done for the past 6 years.

If you have a child that loves to sing, please encourage your child to join the Endless Mountains Children’s Choir.  We are still looking for new members, as many of our members have graduated and we are rebuilding the choir.

We would like to have some more boys join the choir - the unchanged voice of boys is what we are looking for - boys in grades 2 to 7 or 8.  We are a treble voiced choir - soprano I, Soprano II, Alto; no tenors, baritones, bases (changed voices). So all you boys out there who love to sing - come and join us - we need you.

There is no tuition charge  - the choir if free. Imagine that - not having to pay to have your child taught how to sing properly by a highly qualified vocal/choral teacher with 47 years of experience with children’s voices and who actually conducted her own children’s choir (NJ Chamber Children’s Choir) with the Vienna Boys Choir. How could you not give your child this unique experience? The choir robes are also provided at no cost to the children. The choir is totally supported by donations, fundraisers and community support.

The main purpose of the choir is to have the children share their love and joy of singing and music with the community.  At the same time they are taught how to develop their musical talent and love of singing by learning correct musical vocal techniques -diction, breath control, phrasing, expression, dynamics, posture, choral blend, how to follow choral gestures (conducting), rhythm, notation, general musicianship and interpretation.  The children have also learned a great deal of multi-cultural music - they have sung in 13 different languages in the past 6 years including American sign language. We also have fun at rehearsals, on our trips, doing the concerts and meeting people while sharing our music.

Rehearsals are (mostly) Thursday evening, 6:30PM to 8:00PM at the South Gibson United Methodist Church, South Gibson, PA.

If interested, please contact Dr. Sezer 570-756-2729 or drcsezer@gmail.com. REHEARSALS are on the following dates - Oct. 30; Wed Nov. 5 (not Nov. 6); Nov. 13; Nov. 20; Wed. Nov. 26 (not Nov. 27).

Pickett Announces Office Schedule

Before winter weather settles in, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna) remind residents of Susquehanna and Sullivan counties that her staff is available to offer assistance at her satellite office locations.

“The 110th District is one of the largest in terms of geographic size, and on Dec. 1, will include four more municipalities in Susquehanna County while losing just two townships,” Pickett said. “That’s why I feel it is important to schedule satellite office hours in some of the more rural areas of the district. This gives people the ability to call or stop by and pick up applications for state programs or share their thoughts about legislation.”

As of Dec. 1, when the new districts take effect, new areas will include Lathrop Township, Springville, Hop Bottom and Friendsville in Susquehanna County. Forest Lake and Jessup townships, also in Susquehanna County, will be part of the new 111th District.

Pickett’s staff will be on hand to help constituents in Sullivan County from 10 a.m. until noon on the first and third Wednesdays of the month – Nov. 5 and Nov. 19 – at the commissioners’ office in the Sullivan County Courthouse in Laporte.

Hours for her Susquehanna County satellite office will be held on the second Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Heft’s Buy & Sell (formerly Flynn’s Consignment Shop), which is located along State Route 706, in Lawton. Residents can reach the office by calling (570) 934-2557.

To help veterans in the northern area of Bradford County, Pickett’s Sayre district office will host free veterans assistance hours provided by the American Legion Service Officer Outreach Program on the third Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The date for this month will be Nov. 20.

As part of the outreach, Gina Svoboda, a department service officer with the American Legion, can help with compensation, pension, death benefits, education and health care, as well as any issues pertaining to benefits for veterans. Veterans do not need to be a member of the American Legion to receive these services. Appointments can be made by calling Pickett’s Sayre office at (570) 888-9011.

Pickett’s full-time offices are located at 321 Main St., Towanda, phone (570) 265-3124 and 106 West Packer Ave., Sayre, phone (570) 888-9011. More information is available 24 hours a day on Pickett’s website at www.RepPickett.com or on her Facebook fan page at www.Facebook.com/RepPickett. Residents can also sign up via her website to receive a weekly email about local and state activities.
