Priscilla (Pat) Stone
Priscilla (Pat) Stone, 90, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 28, 2014. She was a resident of Barnes Kasson Skill Nursing Home.
She was born on March 17, 1924 the daughter of the late Guy & Grace Peck of Johnson City, NY. She was preceded by her husband Oscar, daughter Margaret Stone Krushansky, a son Ralph Stone and a daughter in -law, Gerri Stone. Brother, Edward Peck and sister, Nancy Zigler.
She is survived by a son Ronald Stone of Susquehanna, PA and a daughter Paulette Stone Towner and son in law Nelson Towner of Susquehanna, ,PA and sister in law, Helen Stone, 2 brothers in laws, Elson and Donald Stone and many nieces and nephews.
She lived in the village of Kirkwood where she was known as “Mother Stone”, from taking care of many children. She was very active in Kirkwood United Methodist Church as choir director and played the piano or organ. She was a Lay Speaker for Wyoming Conference. After retirement they move to Thompson, Pa and enjoyed spending half of the year there and then being snowbirds at Rainbow Village, Zephyrhills,FL.. She was active in The North Jackson United Methodist Church and the church in Fl.
She loved to read, going out for lunch and having shrimp and fries. She was a very loving and caring person and will be truly missed.
A Celebration of her life was held at the North Jackson United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 4, 2014 with Rev. Leanne Campbell officiating.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the North Jackson United Methodist Memorial Fund.
Margaret J. Hilton
Margaret Johnstone Hilton, 64, died peacefully at home on September 26, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Her death came after a graceful and valiant, year-long struggle with cancer. Born Margaret Elise Johnstone on February 7, 1950 in Bellefonte, PA, Meg was the first child of William and Elizabeth Wilmore Johnstone. Meg grew up in State College, PA with her parents and three sisters and graduated from State College Area High School in 1968. Meg earned her B.S. in Art Education from The Pennsylvania State University in 1972. As a freshman at Penn State she met sophomore Ronald W. Hilton on a blind date. Meg and Ron were married on December 29, 1973 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in State College, PA.
Between 1972 and 1977 Meg taught elementary school art in Lansdale, PA and Gahanna, OH. After Meg and Ron moved to Ithaca, NY in 1977, Meg earned an M.S. in Art Education from Syracuse University in 1984. She taught at Ellis Hollow Nursery School in Ithaca from 1990 to 2005, where she greatly enjoyed nurturing preschool children.
Meg volunteered with the Family Reading Partnership, reading to children at several daycare programs in Ithaca, and at Cornell University's Johnson Art Museum, where she led tours for preschoolers. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca where she taught Sunday school and served as a deacon. Meg was also the church’s liaison to the Kitchen Cupboard food pantry, where she enjoyed packing food for those in need. An avid gardener, quilter, book-group member, and fellow traveler with her husband, Meg enjoyed life to the fullest.
Meg's family meant the world to her. Visits to and from her sons, regular weekends with her three sisters, and visits with her cousins were among her most cherished times. She was predeceased by her parents.
Meg is survived by: Ron Hilton, her beloved husband of 40 years; son Timothy Hilton, daughter-in-law Kerry Makin-Byrd, and granddaughter Liliana Hilton of San Mateo, CA; son Bradley Hilton of Boulder, CO; sister Mary Allen and husband Edward of New York, NY; sister Katherine Fulton and husband James of Bristow, VA; sister Anne McDonough and husband Joseph of Ambler, PA; brother-in-law Richard Hilton and wife Deborah of Richmond, TX; nieces Megan McDonough of New Haven, CT and Kristin Hilton Massa of Sugar Land, TX; nephews William Fulton of Bristow, VA, Andrew Fulton of Binghamton, NY, Joseph McDonough of Ambler, PA; and nephew Scott Hilton, wife Kathleen, and children Riley, John, and Joseph of Mechanicsburg, PA; also numerous cousins and close friends.
A memorial service was held at 1:00 PM on October 4, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca (315 N. Cayuga St.). Meg will be inurned later in the fall in the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Columbarium, State College, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Reading Partnership (54 Gunderman Road, Ithaca, NY, 14850) and the Kitchen Cupboard food pantry (Salvation Army Service Center, 150 N. Albany St., Ithaca, NY, 14850).
John (Jack) F. McMahon
John (Jack) F. McMahon, 96, of Susquehanna, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at the Barnes Kasson SNF, Susquehanna, PA.
Jack was born in Susquehanna, PA on November 24, 1917, to the late James H. and Gertrude (King) McMahon. He was predeceased by his loving wife in 1996 Barbara (Brush) McMahon.
Jack was survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and his extended Barnes Kasson SNF family, where he resided for the past 11 years.
Jack served in the United States Army during WWII as a yardmaster, in France. After the war he worked as a yardmaster for the ERIE Railroad until his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of Susquehanna, PA, where he belonged to the St. John’s Church and also served on the Susquehanna Community School District Board for several years. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. B. Patel and the staff at the Barnes Kasson SNF for their excellent care of Jack.
A mass of Christian Burial was offered at the St. John’s Church, Susquehanna, PA, on Friday, October 3, 2014, with Rev. David Cramer officiating.
Interment will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery, Brushville, PA.
